Where is everyone's egt probe located at on their exhaust manifold. pics will help.

i assume you are turbo,

tap it on top of the manifold on the 3rd cylinder. (1)(2)(3)(4) - as if 4 was the closest cylinder to the driver side.

make sure when you get it done/ do it yourself, that you do not have ANY METAL shavings in the exhasut manifold. i'd recommend just taking it off and doing it that way.

You can do it on the car just fine. As soon as you start your car the exhaust gases will push the shavings harmlessly out of the car.

I think he meant wait for it to be cool. Then turn the car on, and do it while it idles? I heard that pushes the shavings out. I assume you have to do it quick or else it would get really hot really fast.

My vote is also for taking it off and doing it like that, You can take your time and tap it.

i thought you supposed to tap it in the 4th cylinder the ones at drives side for the 420A from what i heard then again i hear its the 3rd 1234?....will you get diff reading if you tap it in the 4th runner and 3rd runner for the 420A??

The 4th typically runs hotter / leaner.

RRE taps all their EGT probes with the engine running.
I tap all my EGT probes with the manifold on the workbench because I am a sloppy machinist.

Hey so did you tap your EGT on the # 3 runner? on your 420A
There seems to be some confusion about this I heard its # 4 and some people say its # 3 which one exactly is it. i think its on # 3?

i have mine on #4 since it runs hotter/leaner. i do that because #4 is usually the first one to blow up on our motors. thats why i watch #4 because i know if that one is ok, then the rest are.

If you want to find out for yourself which runner to tap, spend 15 minutes searching 2GNT forums for compression test results from the Turbo and Nitrous guys with blown or dying engines.

Whichever piston blows first is the one that was running leanest and detonated the worst.

Just from memory, it seems like the pistons blow in this order, but please search to be sure. I'll start a thread in the Turbo section for ya, let's see what they say.

#4 - almost always the first to go
#1 - next to go
#2 - very common
#3 - unusual

HAHN recommends the 4th because that piston goes first. even says in their turbo kit install instructions

i removed my EGR valve and put the probe in the egr port. i got an autometer EGT and the probe is just the right length to go all the way to the #4 port.

did mine on the car as well.

If you do it on the car, start the car, while it's running start out with a very small drill bit, and keep working your way up, the exhaust pushes the shavings out while you work. Going too large on the drill bit may cause some shavings to go in, so I recommend working in 1/32" increments.

I also installed mine on the #4 just using the strap

I did mine with it on the car too, no worries. I put it in the first exhaust port.

Would it be smart to have 2 egt gauges, one monitoring number one and one monitoring number 4 cylindar?

What drill bit size did you guys use? We know to start small and work up gradually, but I just need to know the final size drill bit.

I wouldn't go so far as to say every boosted 420A's 4th cylinder runs the hottest. Blowing pistons doesn't mean a whole lot. I blew my #3 first, then blew a #2. The *best* way to figure out which cylinder runs the hottest, is to put the car on a dyno, and use a thermal laser themometer on the oulet of each exhaust port. This has to be done at WOT full boost obviously. IMO, an EGT on each exhaust runner would be the best, but thats quite expensive, and makes for a lot of gauges to look at. Even maybe one EGT on a runner, then the other right after the turbo. That way if the one after the turbo is getting really hot, but the runner one isn't, then you know you have probs. I may actually do this, when I run the 8 injector setup. For some reason, if one of the additional injectors fail, the one that isnt EGT'd, then I would know right away if I have an injector issue.. But, as for the main question, my EGT is on the #4. Really, you can put it on whichever runner you want..I have never seen actual proof of exhaust temps under boost, and which one runs the hottest..

Figured out which drill bit...

I have mine on #3, but after a hard run cyl #1 & #2 seem to be glowing more on the manifold than #3 & #4.

not sure about your car but mines on 3rd 1.5" away from the head...

3rd is the hottest on the honda..

where did you guys hook up the red wire and the white wires for the EGT. i cant seem to get an accurate reading on my EGT it bounces back N forth everytime i press the gass. Can someone tell me where they wire their wires too?? for the EGT. i got the Phantim Grip EGT

i hooked the red power wire to the cig lighter power wire. its the blue wire. the white wire is the backlight wire, splicing it into the cig lighter light wire will have it come on when the headlights are turned on.

I bought my manifold and turbo from Hahn, and they tapped the manifold right in the center about 1 inch from the turbo flange.
