Ok guys, noob here. keep that in mind. So i wanna send in my block to fasterthanyou.com for the ricekiller rebuild. Would it be a good idea to get the head rebuilt too? Can i just rebuild the bottom end and leave to stock head? is it problematic if i dont? i want a hahn stage III... help me

no you dont need to. But if your up there in the miles or even considering it later on in the future, then do it now if you can afford it and avoid taking your engine apart later.

If anything make sure your HG was not leaking and that the head is straight. If it isnt you might need to get it milled.

The answer to your question: No.

I just rebuilt my block back in July when it was hotter than blazes outside here in Phoenix. We left the head completely stock. Better than that, we used my old head with 142K on it with the block from the 95 ESi parts car (I had the old head tested and cleaned and it was leaking in over half the valves).

The problems I have related to this are more than likey a combination of high mileage and also from the head sitting for close to 3 weeks in 120 weather and drying out on me. I will smoke slightly after I idle for long periods of time but it quickly fades in about a mile or so of decent acceleration.

I would say, having gone down the road you're heading down, that you get it all done at once. I'm not looking forward to having to tear into my engine again, but at least I know I won't have to pull the block anytime soon. If you don't get your head done while you do this rebuild, start saving money for it in the near future. A simple cleaning and seal job will run you just under $300. You don't have to get all crazy and start dropping words like Titanium at this time. Maybe pop for the tune up and then bolt up that snail.

Don't get it milled get it decked (trued). Milling takes off more and will rase your compression rate. Same basic idea, but different terms. You wouldn't want billy the big v8 builder to take too much off because he didn't understand. :thumbsup

well... I just rebuilt my block and look at me having to take the head off and have it rebuilt do to leaking valve seals and such. If you have a good amount of miles on your engine then it would be a very good idea to have a valve job done and change the valve stem seals. You can probably get it port and polished too while your at it but you don't have to.

so high mileage (ie 100k) I recommend it, if you around something like 50k maybe its your call. But remember if you stuff smokes or something its gonna be harder one your later.
