62454, Header/ Money Question Posted by darosa4561, Nov-02-03 07:19 AM
Ok im not going to ask the questions which is the best header cuz i can read the i billion post infront of me that everyone has their own view on. But my question is this. I want a 4-1 Header mostly for looks. I have 3 options that i know of Greddy 399.99 thats alot of money Airmass 336.99 but i get a 20% Discount so 269.59 Not Bad Price OBX 169.00 Now i found this on a website. Why are the OBX'S so dam cheap are they crap. Im not sure i want to order them cuz the price seems to good to be true. If it is ill just go with the Airmass headers from my job. Give me some feed back guys. Help a Bro out

here is my opinion. The greddy header is nice looking and has a gain of 1hp and 4 feet puonds of torque now for $400 you are paying for the name. Airmass same thing you are paying for the name. And obx It looks good has about the same gains as either one above and costs less. I personally am either going to buy a hotshot header off of a guy i know. Or Buy a pacesetter and wrap the piping with some heat shielding wrap. Keep in mind that they all have about the same HP/trq gain.

I got my Pacesetter used from a local guy for $60. It's the 4-2-1, but a trick you might keep in mind in case you're worried about a cheaper header rusting to hell on you (which you should have some concern about), you can get that copper spray-a-gasket and paint the header with it. That's what I did on mine, and once it bakes good, it turns this nice gunmetal look. I kinda botched my application a tad on the top, but I'm just going to wrap them anyway (more race car looking imo). Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here.

Atleast if your gonna get a header that doesnt do anything, get the best looking one. The greddy has chrome piping which looks nice but again they really dont do anything on 2gnt's .

It kills me what people say about headers for our cars. The fact is that a header will only give you a peak increase of 1HP however keep in mind thats peak. That doesnt mean that else where in the power curve your not gaining way more. Check out import tuner and look at the dyno they ran. It clearly proves my point. The one they tested was the Greddy but the other brands will provide similar results with the 4-2-1 headers providing more on the low end of the curve than gains on the top of the curve. People seem to misunderstand that just becuase there arent peak gains doesnt mean that it isnt helping. Almost everyone that has a 4-2-1 will tell you they felt the car get stronger in the lower rpm range. While most with the 4-1 will tell you they felt the top of their power curve smooth out due to the added free flow design. IMO Payless get a 4-2-1 and be happy bro :thumbsup . But either way a header will make a difference.

I never said that the header wont do anything its just that for most cars if you buy a $400 header you will get an average increase of 8 hp. Im begining to wonder if they designed the stock one to flow good, making it hard to get even small gains.:shrug

I just got a used hotshot header off of Ebay for $101.00 shipped, so for me the price is all that matters. I have heard that there is some fitment issues with the pace setter so I would go with the OBX. Not really sure what the hotshot headers go for new.

I had the pace setter header and I felt I lost low end power and at highend I didnt feel crap. And I had supporting mods (pulley, exhaust, cai) . I talk from experiance. I would love to see a dyno graph. Anyway I just feel 400 on a header is a complete waste. Save that money for something that you will HELP YOU FEEL A REAL HP GAIN.

i'd get the OBX cuz the price is right, and it's been said that the OBX is just a Greddy by another name. A free-er flowing header will definitely help for nitrous applications (like the one i'm planning) due to the fact that you're gonna be pushing more exhaust out, but totally N/A it won't make any big gains.
