This guy from se.dsm.org is doing a FWD to AWD conversion on his GST. It only cost him $1500 plus a shit load of time. Who's up for doing it on a Turbo RS? That would be fucking SCHWEETTTT!

anyone have any idea on how much power that auto awd tranny can handle?
|
62483, RE: FWD to AWD conversion w/pics!!! HOLY SHIT!!!! Posted by HadesOmega, Nov-02-03 03:14 PM
it would have to handle more than our cars can put out stock I bet. Its a minivan :P but automatic boo :(
There's a dude that lives in my region and he's supposedly has the only Spyder GSX to exist hehe. So this is kinda old stuff O_o

You don't even need the Caravan tranny all you need is the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) ad it bolts on the nvt-350 too
But you will need at least the differential of the Caravan to do a custom read-end system

HMMMMM
So there is an AWD trany that "CAN" be modified to fit 2gnt (ok i dont mind doing crazy swaps on proj. vehicles, other project working on is a jeepster + bronco subframe + add inumerable frame, linkage, driveline changes....)
BUT its auto.....
Time to see if i can find one wrecked for cheap i can buy at auction bwahaha just considering the idea
2.4 2g awd turbo (but auto :( )...might be that the weight gain isint worth the effort to have that title :thumbsdown

yea i talked to road race a while back about a FWD to AWD conversion on a gst for a friend of mine. not really worth all the trouble in my opinion, the underbody is totally different and needs to much fabrication. as to a 420a AWD all i can say is :rolleyes _________ 96 talon esi-t san clemente, ca

turbo8u> you suck Uberingram> i know turbo8u> oh
SaberKhan> Someone needs to snatch that GST of yours up and give you your Cavalier back.

yeap. we might as well swap in a freakin r34 driveline in there... anyone want to take 2500 for that?
|
62579, RE: FWD to AWD conversion w/pics!!! HOLY SHIT!!!! Posted by Blmet, Nov-04-03 07:17 AM
it is not totally different, they suspension is obviously and the gas tank is. The exhaust is routed differently but the driveshaft tunnel and mounts are still there.

The rear end is stupidly simple (90% bolt on).
The biggest difficult is the AWD hookup to the tranny/engine. Figure that one out, and you got an AWD 420a. _________________ Vinnie Lima vinnie.lima@jvllogistics.com AIM: Kiku888 1997 Chrysler Sebring "Silver XTC" I4 420a w/ HRC Stage 2.45 w/ FMIC 14.7@97 mph@6psi Proud member of the ASOG BoOsT JuNkIe Crew
