62159, Uh oh.. another engine install issue. (long) Posted by Nemisizz, Oct-27-03 03:09 AM
Here it is. I bought a used engine and they sent me an engine for a manual not automatic.. No big deal right? I took the clutch off the new engine and bolted it to the bell housing. But it seems the drive shaft for the manual is different than the auto.. Is this true? The manual has a little flat lip on it where the auto doesn't. Is their different bell housing that will work or not? The bell housing will go into the shaft and all is well until I bolt the Trans back on. After that I cannot turn the shaft from the UDP anymore. Seems almost like the pressure against the shaft and bell housing is to tight. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

The 420A fits both transmissions. Its not a different block, both trans should bolt up the same way. Either you dont have the right motor, or the right trans,or you are missing something somewhere? I'm not quite sure what you are saying, but you didnt get new trans did you?

Are you using the flywheel *and* torque convertor from the ATX car? You can't use the 5spd flywheel or clutch, you need the ones made for ATX.
The Torque convertor goes where the clutch used to be, and the flex plate goes where the flywheel used to be, if you are switching to ATX. The crankshafts are all the same.
Post a pic of the lip you're referring to, and we'll know what is the problem for sure.

There may be a difference in the MTX flexplate and the ATX flex plate. What did you do with the flexplate off the old motor?
