62108, I pulled a Fast N Furious, no lie... a lesson learned :( Posted by J, Oct-25-03 01:16 PM
Flying down univeristy drive (South FL) nuts & bolts started flying up @ me from inside the car, then the floor board cracks out scrubbing the ground sending sparks everywhere, next my CAI flies out from under my car shoots in2 the traffic behind me twirling & bouncing!!!
Moral of the story: brace your CAI 2 the chassis U moron & don't B like me!
Just happened 2 me 2day, my wiffle was actually right behind me, following me. That's the only reason Y I know it happened, she started flashing her lights @ me (couldn't hear her horn). I immediately pulled a U'y & motion what's wrong 2 her. She yells my intake shot out! Well sh*t...
Anyways, she saw it finally rest in the median. Unfortunately, after spending quite some trying 2 find it, we surmised that the punk b*tch (only 1 around) that was walking 2 the bus stop (nearby) in the light rain STOLE IT while we both pulled U'ys just 1/4mile down the road (@ Taft), as it should B very easy 2 C.
:: sigh :: deep breath ::
That's a bit frustrating, anyways... here's some background. I bought the CAI here on the boards 4 $20 including filter sometime ago. The only prob was that the metal brace/clamp thing had broken off, no biggy... especially 4 $20. I swapped it out w/ my stock airbox along w/ an AEM Air bypass valve (neccissary in FL)& kept an eye on it making sure it was secure, B'ing 2 d*mn lazy 2 tie rap it 2 the chassis. This was prob over a good year ago now, no probs.
Now there's something that I just don't understand & what gives me trouble w/ my theif premise. Only the bottom 1/2 of the CAI along w/ the Filter flew out of my car. The top 1/2 of the CAI along w/ the Air bypass valve remain secure. Now... U can't use the bottom 1/2 of the pipe w/out the top 1/2, & the filter was just a cheap/old/used/non-K&N air filter. So a bus-patron walking by could not use it himself (since he's riding the city bus) & he can't sell it Bcause it has no value.
SOooooooooooooo, what the frig happened? I dunno. LaD (my wiffle) & I concluded it couldn't have played pinball in traffic as it rested still in the median as she saw in her own rear mirror, & it wouldn't fit down a storm drain, as it was lightly raining.
Well HMmmmmmmmmmm, this sux... I didn't really loose what matters 2 me, the AEM air bypass valve, but now I'm out a CAI that I got an unbelievable deal on. I'm glad my wiffle was driving Bhind me, or I'd have never know it either. Also, neither of us were pressed 4 time, so we were free 2 search 4 the lost artifact. If something had 2 happen, I'm glad it did as it did.
Anyways, I'm now in the market 4 another (2-piece, 2.5") CAI, any1 wanna sell me 1? Can any1 come close 2 my previous sale price of $20 including filter? I'll B suprised if so. But hit me up if U got 1, I'm looking 4 it (& 4 a good/fair price pleaz).

2 qwestuns:
1) how did yur floorboard fall out like dat? it isnt held N by nuts and boltz!
2) Y is dis in da per4mence section? should be N da pitz IMO. werd.
lol, sorry, i had to do it. in any event, im sorry to hear that the CAI fell out. in the mean time, if you put the factoy airbox back on you can cut out many holes in it and cut off the stock resonator (pre-filter, of course). that should give you similar performence as far as throttle response goes, and a nice growl in the mid-rev area. :thumbsup

You know if your gonna be boosting in a couple of months, whats the point in buying another CAI? But anyway I got mine off of ebay for $30 shipped, plus its polished, 2 piece, and it helps about as much as a CAI is gonna help.

Whoa, lots of responses... U're right, I wouldn't have thought anything of had my wiffle not been following me, very fortunate.
SPL_Eclipse, I had a near-empty bottle of NOS that I wired up so when I pushed a button the floorboard sparked up & subsequently shot my CAI out, lol! Haven't done it yet (work), but I'm just gonna put my stock airbox back on & wait till I find another CAI. Not gonna go through the trouble of cutting holes or anything as it should just B temporary :bowdown .
No joke Mike, it p*ssed me off that some1 would do it. As I said tho, our only conlusion 2 it's demise... no hard evidence (didn't C him do it).
Alright now, where the frig is the DSM Meets in Miami?!? I've searched 4 this way back when & all I found 4 the SouthEast chapter was ALWAYS up in Atlanta. Now 4 us South FL peeps, that's a 7 hr drive! I've gone 2 a variety of car shows including this past Import Xpression @ the convention center a coup months ago, but that's it!
hehehehe, The1Bill, sorry... I get that Q alot actually. It's just 2nd nature 2 me, sorry. I don't C the letters anymore, just the "word." U get used 2 it :thumbsup
P.S. I wish I could boost up, I'm having probs just saving the $$$ 4 some Koni's! I've got some Shunk2's sitting on a shelf laughing @ me right now & the ring replacement kit just came in 4 them 2. My wiffle is working on our 1st kid & she's due late January, trying 2 make a made dash 2 drop this mofo B4 he (it's a boy) gets here. :cheers

Proper shorthand: Am I the only 1 who thought that was tough 2 read? :P
M = pronounced 'em,' not 'am' teh, thot, taht, tuff = straight typos :nono reed = something used in various musical instruments, mostly woodwind.

In all seriousness, maybe the cai extension on an injen will fit with your aem top half? It's sold by itself.

HMmmmmmm, that's a creative idea Mystic. Never thought of that. Only reason Y I wouldn't do that is Bcause Injen is $$$ & my old top 1/2 of the CAI isn't polished, but painted 2 color match. Comes down 2 $$$ & laziness. But good idea still!

hahahaha, i appreciate you attitude man, your a great guy. :thumbsup because of some random probs. w/ my computer i cant leave points right now, but ill put your name down on the list. typically people who use "2" and "@" dont respond so well to critisism.

Just buy a filter and stick it on the top half of your CAI and go short ram for a while until you figure out what you want to do. That's the cheapest and laziest way. :thumbsup

Thanx SPL_Eclipse, I appreciate that... I'm telling U tho, U better watch out! My shorthand can B contagous. U may find yourself IM'ing your peeps w/ 'shortened' abbreviations ;) It's kinda like :: yawning :: Most of my friends I talk 2 online grow accustomed 2 it, don't C it as shorthand but actual wordz. They laugh @ themselves when they use it themselves, albeit by accident. :cheers
Mystic, I thought about that actually. Unfortunately the break Btween the 2 pipes is 2 high up 2wards the TB. It'd prob look a lil funny & it'd really B sucking in hot air from the bay. U're really thinking up some good suggestions, thanx. Just out of curiosity, how much U find your Injen CAI 4? Everywhere I C is really, really Xpensive... especially since I bought my old 1 4 $20 w/ filter, lol.
Thanx guys! - J :D
