i need a new headgasket pretty desperately but i dont have time to change it myself. i called and got an estimate for the fix and the shop told me $560. does this sound right at all? i bout shat myself. how much would it be at a dealership. they are pressure checking the head and everything but still damn

Yeah, sounds right.

Or, you could do it yourself over a weekend. Not hard, just a lot of it.

if you can realign timing marks, turn a ratchet, and follow instructions, you can do it in a day....... it is a serious process, but not difficult at all, even if you know nothing about anything, read a chiltons and this board.. worked for me...peace

You definately won't be able to do it in a day the first time you do it. Unless you already have ample experience with other cars or something.

It took me about four days of work... two to take everything apart and two to put it back together my first time. I think I could do it in two days next time if I would have to do it all over again.

I wouldn't want anybody jumping into this the first time thinking they could have it done in 12 hours. Like everyone else has said though... it's not hard, it's just a lot of bolts to turn and remembering where it all goes.

To answer your question, yea most bolts are reusable unless they're stripped or something. It's also recommended that you change your head bolts since the old ones might be stretched due to stress over time.

Well, since he'd have to remove them to have the head surfaced, he might as well replace them. I ran 15psi on an MLS headgasket, with reused STOCK OEM '95 headbolts. Never blew the HG or lifted the head.

Just remember to grind 1/4" off the top right corner head bolt (closest to driver), reused or new.

yea good call, it took me about 5 days. that was with work, school, and spare time.:thumbsup
