61612, AFX udp situation
Posted by eclipselova18, Oct-16-03 10:13 AM
hey i tried to put this bad boy on but couldn't so i took it to my mechanic. He tried and finally got it on with the 3 jaw 5 ton puller. But heres the problem, he used to work on winston cup race engines that have a big pulley for the altenator and a small one for the power steering and said that pulley may kill the alternator quickly now that its moving a couple times faster than it was normally. So i was wondering if this is a problem with our 420a engine or am i just too paranoid. Since a lot of people have had this for a while i believe it should be fine. Yeah and i really don't want to buy altenators left and right everytime i drive my car that i love so much.

you'll be fine. it actually spins the alternator slower. meaning elss power to your accesories but you'll be fine. just don't run your sterio with the car off :)

Like ^^^^^^^^ said, you'll be just fine, however if you are really concerned about the alternator you can buy a larger alt pulley. Many guys who have large systems do this to make up for the loss of power to the accessories. It should spare the alternator.

yes and no, its still aluminum which is lightweight. less rotating mass is still better than the stocker

And you still are underdriving your AC and PS.

I have an AFX and a 2000 watt stereo system. Never had a problem. Lights don't even dim.

If your worried about lack of power get a capacitor.

WTB:
--bolt on turbo kit (star, hahn, etc.)
--rear drum to disc set up
--internals
---------------HOLLA!!!

It will be fine. I runs slower, not faster. We have tested them with up to a 1200watt system with no charging problems.
