Here is my problem. I have white smoke coming out, oil in my plugs and low compression in cylinder two. I don't have oil in my coolant and I am not leaking coolant. Do I need to replace the HG or valve cover? My Chiltons suggested low compression could also be a blown piston ring. Could that be the problem. Any ideas what the problem could be. Thanks

when you say oil in your plugs, do you mean oil in the spark plug well? or oil when you take out the spark plugs....if there's oil in the well, your valvecover is probably leaking, if there is oil on your spark plugs a couple things might be bad..... your piston rings could be bad causing the oil to seep through causing the smoke, or you valve guide seals could also be bad doing the same thing..... if you have low compression in the cylindar, i would think piston ring, but im not completely sure..... if you arent leaking coolant, i dont think its the headgasket....the oil passages are in the back of the engine and would have a hard time trying to leak up into the cylindar's..... correct me if im wrong on anything

There is oil on the spark plugs when I take them out. The car is runnig fine, no hesitation. The compression reads 160-110-160-160, so its not that low of a compression. If it is the piston rings should I do the head gasket while I have it apart? Thanks

if you have white smoke that usually is a head gasket? is the smell of the smoke sweet? if its a h.g u wont have as much oil in ur coolant as u will coolant in ur oil. ur oil will be a carmel milky color. i would pour a couple drops of oil in ur low comp. cylinder and test it again and if it raises it up to normal than it might be rings or cyl. wall

Generally if you headgasket is going on a 420a you can see burnt oil on the driver side back of the head. The oil jacket will go long before the water jacket connects to it (so there won't be coolant in your oil, vica versa).
