What would be better to go with for a turbo kit, picking up a star stage 2 for 2900 or putting one together. Would i save any cash on doing a custom job.

first of all you really need to do research if you want to do it yourself....youre going to have to learn how a turbo works, why, and everything about fuel and the engine itself..... im in the process of doing a custom job right now....it will be a stage two when im done, but only 5psi is what im going to run..... some advantages of doing it yourself:
- cheaper...im going to have about $800 complete when im done
- you'll learn more
- buy the parts piece by piece instead of a lump sum
- you wont have to rebuy stuff like the sfmu which everyone has problems with
- im sure theres more, but i cant think of any right now
some disadvantages:
- takes longer
- more room for error if you dont know what youre doing
- no instructions, except help from us
- ummmm, dont really know anymore....im doing a custom route so of course i think custom is the best and cheapest way of doing it.... but im sure someone else will disagree

when i actually install my turbo in the upcommming winter, im going to take pictures galore and make a writeup on everything i did....hope this helps in your decision

if you know a lot about turbos and modding for performance in general, then go custom.

if your new, then you'll save a lot of trouble. i know i am glad i went with a kit.

My rule is if you have to ask you need to buy a kit.

that rule makes sense to a point, but everyone has questions, and you could always learn...now if someone asked "i bought a turbo and manifold from an eclipse, how do i bolt it up", then he needs a kit

you mean the Cartech aka. CRAPtech, not the SFMU. The SFMU is the godsend to the custom fuel system world!!


i have a custom set-up. If you dont have access to welders, and other bigger tools, then go kit!! if you have access to bigger and better tools, like troubleshooting, custom fabing and lots of trips to the parts store, go custom!!!

yeah i meant the craptech....i just figured he'd have to shell out another $300 for the sfmu..... by the way, what did you need the welder for? welding the ic pipes? or did you do the exhaust yourself?
