I really want/need turbo on my 97 GS badly and really soon. I looked into Hahns Stage 1 kit to start off since it comes w/ a lot but it would cost about 2000-2200 for kit plus another 600-700 for clutch, BOV and turbo timer. Then installing is will cost some $. I also have 65K miles on car so Im a little worried on putting a turbo/ dumping that much $ into car on this engine. I can get fairly new GST motor (20K-30K miles) for about 1500 and I have a buyer for my enigne ($600-700) so Id be saving a lot of $ and have lower miles if I did swap rather then turbo unless its a lot of customizing o get motor in my car. Please help me

I dunno man anything is possible w/ $. I was told I can put a twin turbo 3000GT motor in my car also.. but thats way to much $. If it ends of being more to do GST swap then it is to do a Stage 1 turbo on my motor then Ill do whatever is cheaper.

It'll be cheaper to do a stage 1 turbo on your car. for the money you'll end up spending on the engine swap. you could have a stage 3-4 turbo and be blowing doors just about any GS-T

Basically, it comes out to these things:

Replace 420A with 4g63
Rework motor mounts
Replace entire wiring harness
Replace ECU
Replace axles
replace transmission

Basically, you have to rebuild the entire car. The entire wiring system is different, the mounts are different, the ecu id different.. I've read all the manuals, i've seen all the pictures.. it's just not possible.

Dark One.... Motor Mounts, wiring harness, axles, and transmission comes w/ the engine Im getting. I have pretty good hookups. I got my friend got an J-spec SI motor w/ everything needed to drop it in car inclduing axles, wiring harness, mounts etc w/ transmission all w/ 20K miles on it along w/ a MUGEN ECU which cost a shit load of $ all for just under $2000 shipped! I dont see why my swap would cost more then 2700 including labor plus Im getting 700 for my motor. Thats 2000 total. A Stage 1 kit alone is 2000 or more w/o installation and all the shit u need for engine to withstand a turbo. Plus I hear about of shit about RS and GS motors blowing up when u put turbo on them. Most of u guys in here seem to be doin fine though.

This question has been asked 30 billion times. No offense to the poster, but please Search before you ask. This board is for information and everyone is welcome to ask any questions...it's just I've seen this same one about 5 times in the last month. you just got the luck of the draw and were the last one to post before I just couldn't take it anymore. :-) no hard feelings! If you will go to http://www.dsm.org and search for this in the FAQ there is a small write up about it. Not to be harsh, but people have researched this and it's not cost efficent, given the comparison. Sell your car and get a GST or do the smart thing and get the Star or HRC kit. If you think you can do it for under 2100ish then by all means do it and post your results. Good luck in your endevor.

If you want to do it yourself then you need some smarts, time and $. If you want someone else to do it, then it will just take time and more money. Dino is saying that it will deplete you in more ways than one and the rewards wouldn't be there. Someone has done it before and they ran 11's if my memory serves me. Try DSM.org to get his email. This subject seems to come up when the weather gets colder. There is probably no connection.

For the stage 1 kit, you can use the stock clutch, the BOV is included, you don't need a turbo timer.

Doing the custom work for the 4G63 swap will cost a LOT more than 2000 dollars. That will probably cover just the labor.

You've got just as good of a motor, if not better, and you'd spend $3000 upward to do it. If you want 210hp, Gude has a head kit that'll put you up with the GS-T's. (80 at the flywheel on average) for $1600

There is even more yet. Basicly everything from the firewall to the front bumper engine bay wise.
There was a guy in Chicago that did this, he origionally blew the 420a that was in his car and swapped in a GST. He drove the car for only a few months since the swap 2 years ago, and is now parting it out because it started on fire on it's own. I think he said $10,000 down the drain in the swap and other things that went wrong.
The turbo kit may be expensive but much more worth it.

If you really want a 4g63 get a GSX. If not, the cheapest and best way to go is to get a turbo kit. You can have your car turboed for about $2000 and it will be faster than stock GS-T's. I am only running 6 psi intercooled and I can beat GS-T's all day long.

Well u guys kick ass. I cant believe this many people responded so quickly. You all probably noticed I have never gone to this site or posted anything until this past weekend. DOES ANYONE HERE LIVE IN THE MARYLAND AREA? I have already met this guy on this board w/ a RS w/ a star kit and I was hoping I could meet more of u guys if u live close by. the "Blue Ribbon" turbo i saw it a mag a while ago. don't remember which one it was though.

I think the what your thiking of is a custom turbo kit, some places make em, your better off with a Star or HRC, which has been proven to work well.

Another place you coulda got info on that 4g63 swap is the 2gnt webpage. It sez so in the faqs section or info can't remember. Some peeps should check out the actual webpage more often, lots of good info there.
