I've been having car trouble lately and almost traded in the talon for a four door.

After replacing a bunch of sensors, it finally turned out to be the coolant temp. sensor. The old one had 96,000 miles on it and was caked up with chunks of old coolant. The new one was only 15 bucks at autozone, one of the cheepest sensors, imo. Car runs hella better now and hasn't died or stuttered on me yet.

what exactly what your car doing? Hesistating, stutter, what?

it was stuttering at high speeds when I was hard on the throttle and it would die randomly at idle. Then it would start right back up. My ecu would never store a trouble code. My gas mileage was terrible and it always smelled of gas fumes. I had no idea that the coolant temp sensor had anything to do with running rich.

Before that- I had changed my front O2,coil pack and plugs, IAC, TPS and fuel filter but it didn't help.

yup ECU checks many sensors to adjust timing and fuel. TPS, IAC, IAT, coolant temp, O2, MAP, crank & cam sensors, knock sensor...

Even worse when you have an ATX!!! ATX and the ECU are like the same damn things, always sampling from a million sensors to function, most of the ones you posted.

do you have the P/N from autozone? They told me they only had one which turns out was the sensor for the gauge. They claimed to not have the CTS.

looks like im going to replace that..im having the exact same problems!

For $15? What the hell! I think I'll go get one anyway! I'm getting similar problems, only my temps are starting to fluctuate big time. Probably because the ECU can't figure out how the AF! W00T!

yup, they're kinda pricey. But make sure you get the correct one, you'll realize if you picked up the wrong one or not based on size. The CTS is like a 1/2"npt fitting, maybe bigger. the other is like 1/8", its really small.

We got one for my dad's Neon yesterday. I had to have Chris check this thread through an AIM convo over the phone to make sure we had the right part number. They only had one, and the neon had a different number. They even said the 2GNT sensor PN was like SU2040 or something. I hope they were wrong. I picked me up an SU326 and am going to try to install it here soon...

When it works, you get teh pointage name no0b. :P

I saw at the AutoZone link above, that the SU326 is for a 1995 Eclipse. Now I know a 420A is a 420A is a 420A is a Cuisinart, but why does it have a different PN for the 1997? Same engine. Different computer? I need to know before I install this thing and waste $15. It's cheap for a sensor, but pricey for a piece of useless metal.

Well, I just called satan. They said the sensors are different betwen the 95 and the 97s. :( I'm guessing the signal from/to the sensor and the ECU is different since the ECUs are different. In any case, I'm going to go swap this SU326 for the other one. I'm pretty sure this is the same problem though, so you'll get some points when it works... no0b. :P (snicker!)

Good luck figure it out, be careful when you install it that you dont short it out with coolant.

sorry about the part # confusion...my car is a 95 and there are difference between late 96's on up with sensors and connectors and such. Off the top of my head the cam sensor plugs are different, so are the coil pack plugs.

Just remember to save the receipt so you can return shit. :thumbsup

nobody moves, this is a hijacking. I would have to refill my overflow tank every 3 weeks or so. Think it would help if I got a new sensor too?

I'd check for leaks and connections first. Look at your hoses and stuff and makes sure they aren't cracked. Check to see if the little screw cock (uh huh...I said cock...) thing is turned and tightened all the way. Pressure test maybe? But refilling the reservoir every month doesn't sound too bad. It doesn't cound like a bad coolant temp sensor to me.

If you're coolant temp was wacky- you'd be running rich and your car would sputter/stutter and die every so often. My gas mileage was also really crappy.

what about me? i replaced my radiator with a Fluidyne, replaced the coolant temp sensor , thermostat , upper radiator hose, and I have a metal coolant resevoir; plus I flushed the radiator not too long ago, and im still getting overheating problems. :-( Whats wrong, the DSM gods dont love me? ;(

its possible you could have bought a faulty thermostat (yes even if it was brand new). Happens every so often. maybe try a new thermostat, they're cheap...good luck
