i put on my unorthodox crank pulley, worked fine the first day, and the second. but on the third day after install my new alternator belt comes off and my power steering belt begins to ride off the pulley. wtf is going on? me and a friend thought that the pulley wasnt far enough on the crankshaft so we tried to torque it on some more...there was a little movement but not much. i dunno that may have caused it.

i cant get some new belts until monday so i am stuck w/o my clipse till then :(

give me your opinion of why this could have happened...thanks

its definatly a wobbly crankshaft problem. make sure you didnt cross thread anything, and that the crankshaft pully is torqued down to spec.

if it makes you feel better, at some point in my cars life a mechanic used the wrong sized bolt and years later i was getting the same problems. satan re-tapped and fitted a new bolt in for 90 bucks. ;)

yeah we used an actual torque wrench this time and we were able to turn it quite a bit, so i hope that was it.

If you can turn it by hand, it wasn't on far enough.

If it keeps jumping, hit it with a strong impact wrench for a few seconds.

yea you def cant turn this bolt by hand. hopefully we fixed the problem. after my new belts are on i am going to periodically check on them to make sure they are not jumping off.

i got the new belts on, took her for a ride, no belts ran off their track. all the belts are centered on their pulleys. everything looks good.

i was thinking, should i re tighten the belts after i run her for a little bit, maybe a day or so later..cause maybe they loosened up a little bit after i drove her for a few days and that is why they came off.

let me know if you have done this or think it should be done.

the belts will strectch as they wear you need to check their tension periodically and retension as needed.
