Hey guys... I finally got the right cams today. I am in the process of installing them. I need to get the crank pully off, thier is no way i can set the timing properly with it on there. I JUST put it on a month ago before I installed the motor. Now I have been tring for 3 hours to get this thing off. I broke a 3 jaw puller, and I have been tring to get it off with a slide hammer which is how i got it off last time. It wont budge!!! I was wackin the shit out of it for a good hour and it hasnt moved a millimeter... x( I also tried heating it up with a torch and then put the slide hammer on it and it didnt move. I also been bugging matt95tgs on aim about it. I am really at my wits end and if i dont get this new motor running this weekend I think im going to rip my eyeballs out. Has anyone had this problem? How did you get it off? Is thier any way to install these cams without pulling the pully? please help!

Mopar makes a special puller that makes it easier to get off. I bent a regular 3 jaw puller on my pulley; my dad borrowed the special one from work and was able to get it off.

hrrrmmmm. I am sure I can run up to the shop tomarrow and barrow whatever puller they would use. did you need to use an impact wrench? I don't have one, but if i need one to get it off ill go buy it tomarrow.

Autozone has it. Its called a harmonic dampener puller on there little sheet that has all there tools. Thes things are super strong and they fit perfectly.

Isn't that the one that has bolts on the outside that thread into the thing its going to pull? For example, to pull the crank sproket? The crank pulley does not have anywhere to thread bolts in.

No this one is small black and it has two steel rods that go in where the crank bolt goes. One rod for when you just starting off and one for when the crank is starting to come off. but it is a jaw puller, the jaws just fit in the grooves on the pulley better and its stonger.

Cool man ill go ask for it tomarrow. Until then im going to cry myself to sleep! anyone else have a bastardized crank pully?!?

Yeah mine is a bitch too. I was gonna change the timing belt, couldn't get it off with the pulley puller I got from autozone. Then I talked to the pervious owner and found out the belt was changed a month before I bought the car, it looked new is why I had to call and ask.

What it the best way to get it back on? I dont feel too comfortable hammering it on there, I dont want to damage the crank or berrings!

I haven't gotten that far in the project yet but from what I have red you put it in the oven at 500 degrees for about 15 mins grab it with oven mits and then run it to the car and put it on before it cools and contracts. This gets you part way and then you have to torque it down the rest of the way.

getting it back on is the easy part....if you loosen the one motor mount, (i guess some might call it the transmission mount), but its on the very left..... that will alow you to drop the engine about 1-2" which makes it much easier to get on and off..... just line it up so its not going on crooked, tap it lightly with a hammer and just tighten it up with the bolt.... just make sure you got a good bit of threads to bite into

Yes, it goes on much easier than it came off. But I also used the impact to zip it on with. Oh, and the whole heating it up in the oven thing is for the aftermarket AFX underdrive crank pulley....it's aluminum.

Impact wrench will solve any getting off/putting on problems }(

As far as pulling it back on, I got a bolt that was 2" longer than the stock one, and add a bunch of washers until it's safe to use the stock one to pull it all the way on.

You can also get threaded rod, and screw it in with a bolt and washer.
