First time i heard that term was from my recent dyno outing. they said it was a default fuel/timing map the ECU reverts to if you have to many codes. That it was designed to get you off the road and into the dealer for servicing when to many codes came on to much.

Anybody have anything to say on the topic?

yeah, it's a myth. The only "limp in" on our cars is on the ATX, when it has an electronic issue - it just stays in second, so it doesn't kill the trans. Trust me, i have like 10 codes right now, if there were a limp mode, i'd be in it.

Um, there is that 4000rpm mode that I was stuck in all summer long because i couldn't figure out what the problem was with my map sensor.

Yeah, what do you think is going to happen if the ECU can't determine the amount of air going into the motor? it's gonna lean out, and sputter and pop. That point is around 4000RPM.. it ain't limp mode, its "i don't know what is going on so i can't provide fuel" mode.

I go into limp mode when I had too much to drink.

I have lots of CEL codes also. Our cars always get CEL's when we build the engines and run different fuel systems and remove cats and egr's etc etc. Its all a part of going fast. No limp mode in my car at all.

My car feels faster when I don't have the Catalytic Failure CEL cuz of my test pipe, but then again it could be my imagination as I have no #'s to back that up.
