6004, Valve work and rebuild downtime Posted by CJWalker, Nov-02-01 10:54 AM
LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-01 AT 04:59 PM (PST)How long does it usually run a shop to rebuild and engine (oversize .020 pistons)and do a valve job (port, pollish, SS valves, springs, cams, retainers, etc..) Ive been thinkin it may be easier just to buy a used head and have the work done before its put on, but will there be more labor involved with having a used block built and swapped in?? I really dont want my car to be sent away for weeks at a time!
Im leaning toward the idea of havin the motor built and turboed at nearly the same time so i can start off with a bigger turbo so I can boost as much as I want! This of course after some tranny work.
PS with a crap load of head work like valve springs, retainers, lifters, rockers, and cams what should be a safe readline for the engine??? Is it possible to get up to 9k??
Thanx

LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-01 AT 05:26 PM (PST) Is it just the limiter that keeps the revs low or is there more to it? If its just the limiter I can use A/M parts to change it after I get the head work done
BTW heres roughly what I have planned for my car: (prolly left some stuff out) HEAD: Cams, SS Valves, Cam Gears, new valve springs, new retainers, Rocker/lifter upgrades, port/polish Block: low compression JE pistons, crower rods, etc. Turbo: HRC stage 4 or 5 with 20G blitz dual solenic BC
Exhaust: 3" turbo back
Intake: Venom manifold (if i can get one) bored tb Tranny: Quaife LSD, ACT 2600, Fidanza flywheel
