60017, AF/X UDP Posted by ctm2k, Sep-23-03 03:28 PM
Hi I was wondering if there is any other performance chips for non turbo eclipses besides the AF/X UDP Unit because it requires 93 octane and I live in california.. Anyone know?

Well you are thinking about the PCM, the UDP does not require 93 octane as it is just a pulley. As far as I know JET and the other companies out there are a joke. The AF/X PCM is the real deal. You may be able to get away with 91 octane California pee water with an octane booster though???? Better ask and see if any Californians have that mod and see what they say. Maybe some of the west coast guys can help you there.

91 and 93 shouldn't make much of a difference...
aslong as it hasn;t sat for a long time and lost its octane..

Any upgraded ECU should require higher octane fuel or you aren't getting timing advance added to the programming which is one of the big things you want as well as new fuel maps and more acceptability of mods.
As far as what you can do in california... not much, I suggest some stiuff research in what you can do, and what you can undo come emmissions time.

Smooth idle? We don't need no stinking smooth idle.

well the upd really won't affect emmissions, so you would be ok on that aspect. But in terms of the af/x computer you would be looking at a change in a/f mixture therefore changing your emissions. This is a plug and play system so if you can find a stock comp come emissions time i guess you would be ok.. i don't live in cali

to get a highter octane rating here in cali, all you have to do is mix 91 octane with toulene, and you can get 93, 100, whatever!
