Hey I bought an OBX 4-1 Race Header for my 1995 Mits. Eclipse DOHC 2.0L 4 cylinder manual trans.

I have one question, the Header comes with the gasket and bolts, but I was wondering what to torque them to? Also any other installation tips as far as O2 censors or anything else, removing the old one. The header does have bungs for the o2 and everything. Anways, thanks for the help!

Installing a header is pretty straight forward. Unbolt your stock manifold and downpipe, and bolt the header on. I would start with the manifold and work you way back to the cat. As for torque on the bolts... If you didnt get any instructionswith the header or you dont have a chiltons handy, i would go with tightening all the bolts till they were snug then about 1/4 of a turn past. The only tip i have is to make sure that all of the manifold bolts are semi-threaded before you start tightening them. The 02 sensor is pretty easy to install. You can either go buy a 02 sensor socket, or use an open end wrench.

On a side note... Is your car copper?

Ok, thanks about everything. No, they dont come with instructions-- i've just heard that when you put em on, they have to have the proper torque or whatever or they would warp / break / jack em up to say the least... So I wanted to try to verify the specifics. Earlier this year I bought an OBX Cat Back system, we gutted out the cat and put it back on (i live in kansas)- Now im to the header :)


Oh, and im not sure on the 'offical' color of my car. I know there's not too many that color. Some call it copper, and some call it metallic orange.

After you install the header check it after a week or so to make sure all the bolts are still torqued.

Just FYI the color is called Durango Copper Pearl.

22 foot punds. If U can do it in the morning that the best time to do it. The car is nice and cold and if something comes up U never know U can run to a hardware store and it will be open. Have a can of WD40 for the bolts. Use the WD40 first on the bolts it will make life some much better. Use jack stands and not just a jack. Make sure U put something behind the back tires too. I just did this same install twice so I know it pretty good.

First thing, if u aren't using air tools or a break bar, then u will need to do the following:

-Remove heat shield
-spray every bolt with DW40 or Rusteater. There are 8 head bolts\studs, two bolts for the half section (these two 19mm bolts are screwed in from the bottom of the car, and require LOTS OF DW40), and two bolts on the cat, also spray the O2 sensor.

Step #
1- unhook the O2 sensor harness, and unclip the two flex clips holding the O2 wire on. Dont attempt to remove the O2 sensor with the harness still plugged in, because u will twist the wire and probably tear it.

2-remove all 8 manifold to head bolts\studs. Two of them are doubled nutted and one holds on a coolant line so be careful.

3-jack car up with two stands, and get under front bumper and remove the two 19mm bolts. I had to break out a breaker bar and a big craftsman rachet for this, cheap tools will break before these bolts will.

4-pull top half of stock header off w\O2 attached, take a 7\8th open end wrench and take the O2 sensor out. Quickly put some antiseeze on the threads making sure it doesnt get on the tip of the sensor, just the threads. Screw that into the OBX header top half.

5-Un bolt the two header bolts, these are hard. They are usually rusted and in an award position. Your car is a 95 so expect the worst. After that remove stock down pipe.

6-put the obx header top half on but dont tighten the bolts all the way, just yet. I wouldnt use that crappy gasket it comes with. i would use an OEM gasket (new) from dealership.

7-bolt the obx down pipe onto the cat. next push the down pipe up\onto the top header half.

8-VERY IMPORTANT STEP- make sure u tighten the two half bolts real good, if u dont they will back off and down pipe with hit ground and bend\dent up real quick, happen to me twice. now tighten the manifold to head bolts\studs starting in the center and working your way outward.

Start it up and if it sounds like a tractor, u have an exhaust leak, if u do it is probably at the header half joing spot or the cat bolts arent tight.

BTW...its easiest to remove the oxygen sensor when the header is hot. Don't wait till it cools, because its a bitch to take off then.

yea, i live in kansas... what part are you from? im from southeast kansas... do you all get together somewhere or something? I dont haven any friends with an eclipse, they all have trucks and muscle cars, lol.

i think i have that header. Does it come with 2 02 sensor ports? If so, put the 02 sensor on the right side not the left. Makes it easier for mods later (more room)
