I'm getting a water temp gauge and need to know if other than a CEL and poor torque converter lock up habits will my car be ok without the CTS? I know it controls a lot more than just TC lock up and when the fans turn on, but i think the gauge i bought hooks right into there.

If I cannot hook up right there, where else can I hook this gauge at?

Just "T" it so you can keep the stock sensor also.

Yea that would work too, cept my stock gauge is busted. lol It isnt working, and i dont feel like paying 25 for a CTS sensor from hondazone.

Well there are actually 2 diff sensors mounted directly underneath the radiator hose. There is one that feeds the gauge cluster which is the one you would want to replace. The other feeds the ECU I think.

the smaller sensor controlls the guage inside the car and nothing else. If you are talking the larger sensor, that one feeds the ecu and operates the fans. you cannot do without this part. it will f*ck up your car.

what about the allen screw fitting on top of the housing? is it too small to fit your guage sensor?

For now both fans blow full time. But my TC is unlocking and locking in sporatic spots. If anyone knows somewhere online i can order this part CHEAPER than 25 ill get it. Otherwise, what're the consequences of waiting?

And once my gauges arrive im gunna cehck out that bleeded part see if that works...Good call Wikki:thumbsup

if your drivers fan blows when you are warm, then the sensor probably has no problems at all. trust me , if it was out you would know it. when mine went out I ran so pig rich that I think I killed my O2 sensor. plus if your temp sensor goes out, it is impossible to start the car while warm. it floods immediately.
why do you think that thus has something to do with your TQ lockup? didn't you do the luckup mod? are your wires connected well?

Read a manual at work for an Auto Diesel college explaining how the TCM reads the temperature in order to find a correct timing to lock and unlock the TC, among other sensors course.

But anyway, car started to overheat the other day, blasted the heat and it was ok. Now, whenever i start my car, regardless of engine temp both fans blast full. The relays are fine, obviously. Dunno what it could be, got a CEL for both CTS voltage too high, what would cause that? Probably my problem somewhere.

But yea, i guess maybe the CTS isnt my problem, with the symptoms youre explaining.

both fans are blasting at start-up huh? without your a/c on?
that is a horse of a different color. I just automatically assumed that the sensor either worked or it did'nt. I also assumed that anything out of the norm and your ECU would go to its default value and assume that you were running cold (chilton's helped with that assumption).
you may be on to something here. I personally have never heard of both (or any) fans coming on at start-up.
I wish that I lived close by so that I could swap sensors with you and see what happened, but maybe you know of someone else. it sure would save the $$$

So what's going on with the car? Something is obviously giving the CTS power or something and ist turnin BOTH fans on. lol i dont understand what's going on. Never heard of it before? And the CHiltons doesnt say anything about it?

btw, no A/C is on at allm p/s and a/c belt is off right now so i know the a/c wont ever be on unless im turning my vents on the front windshield.

YOu can do 2 things here to test your CTS.

1. attach 2 wires (one for each prong) into the back of the CTS. Run the wires to the inside of hte car and attach a volt meter to them. Watch your CTS. if it behaves normally, that's not your problem. By normally, it should start out around 9-11 k ohm when your engine is cold and then drop to 0.6-0.8 as it gets to hot. Once it crosses 0.6, my dash temp gauge started to rise slowly.

2. unplug the wiring harness that goes into the CTS and put a 10 k ohm resistor across the two wires of the harness. Start the car. If the fans come on, your ECU is sending hte wrong signal.


I have the opposite problem. My fans won't ever come on. So, I've done all this testing as well. It appears my ECU doesn't ever send a signal to my relays, but my CTS is fine.

As long as im in no danger to blowing something up im alright. My fans are on 100% so I know over heating isnt a problem, alternator probably doesnt like it though

only thing you might blow is a fuse, but the system should be designed to handle it w/o any problems.
