This question might be a little stupid but that is what this board is for, to learn about these 420A engines. Anyway here goes:

I totally understand the concept of a Turbo Timer, you don't want hot oil to sit inside the turbo and cook everything. So you have a timer that shuts off your car after x amount of minutes so you pump colder oil through the turbo.

Now my question is: Why wouldn't you put some kind of Turbo Timer on your N/T engine? Can it be done, and would it even be practical? Wouldn't the hot oil be sitting in the engine cooking everything inside just like a turbo, or are the parts inside the engine stronger than the internals of a turbo?

I just want to know for personal knowledge and I know someone here might have some kind of answer. For as hard as I drive my car and all the mods I have done to her I know my oil has to get pretty damn hot!

i think it's cause when a turbo is boosted hard it can get RED hot and that's what heats up the oil, whereas in a n/t the oil doesn't get close to that hot.

What is a good time frame to let your turbo cool down? 1 min for soft drving and 3 min for hard driving? Just wondering what people have set theirs at.

Many people do actually put TT's on NA engines. the need isnt as great, but any engine will benefit from some kind of cool down.

Time depends on how hard the turbo as ran. Turbo's reach extreme temperatures! Also another reason for TT is at least on turbo desel's the comprssor wheel may still be spinning...if there is an abrupt shut off...ALowing the car to idle for a min or 2 after wards gives the wheel time to completely stop as to not be turning with no oil flow through the turbo.

the main idea of a TT is to keep oil circulating so that whatever oil is left on the bearing is not stuck there to be cooked. Oil can become clumped when exposed to extreme heat. this clumped oil can inturn damage your turbo...

Before I got my turbo kit I had my TurboTimer installed on my N/T for about 3 months....You can put it onto any car...it doesn't really help for an N/T car...but still good to have so your engine doesn't go from hot and running to hot and off....some cool down time is good for any car
