58945, engine temp gague problem... Posted by eclipticrider, Sep-10-03 03:42 PM
i put my belts on last weekend, and now my temp gague fluctuates...
i also took off my heat sheild cuz it was falling appart and looking like crap but, i dont' thinkt that's the problem
sometimes the guage will go almost to red, but then if i turn on the a/c it instantly drops to normal... also if i turn on the high beams it drops to normal... it mostly does this when stopped... it's mostly fine while driving...
i'm not sure what it could be... perhaps the temp sensor is messed up?? or maybe somthing wrong w/the belts?? i tried my best to get them to the correct tightness... but i'm not sure it i did that right...
well thanks

Look at your thermostat housing on the motor. There are 2 sensors on it. The bottom sensor is your coolant temp sensor for the dash gauge. It has one wire connection on it. Be sure that connection is on there, clean , and tight.

Uh, he did. Under the thermostat housing it's the sensor with a one wire connection.

It is right under where the upper radiator hose attaches to the motor. Where the neck is that holds the radiator cap.

Could be the sensor itself. Could be a bad ground in the wiring or a bad gauge in your instrument cluster.
