just got my cat removed have this nasty honda like noise also feels less powerfull at lower rpm`s i was just wondering if i heat wrapped all the 2.5 inch piping from the header back if this would make a difference in sound and let the car exhale alittle easier but keeping a higher heat through the system any one done this yet????

No. The reason you got the performance drop is because you lost back pressure. The reason the sound is there is because the cat also helps reduce sound because it decreases flow. Heat wrap is to keep heat away from other items so it will not help you at all in this usage.

correct me if i m wrong i have heard that the more heat you also keep inside of the exhaust chamber ,piping the faster it will travel out there for smoothing out the exhaust note ,,,i may have heard wrong though was just wondering if anyone that has real life experiance trying this could tell me

well keeping hte exhaust hotter keeps the velocity up. This is good for turbos and such...but why would that lessen the noise?

Get your self a resonator or glass pack to get rid of that high pitch sound. They are only like 30-40 bucks.

What you are saying is true. We used to wrap all of our 2 stroke pipes back in the AMA days... But the gains were non-existant to neglibible... maybe 1% difference. not worth it imo.

If you are looking o keep the heat in go cermic coating, $10 per foot through jet hot. Do not use heat wrap, it traps moisture as well as heat and can speed up corrossion.

I just saw the word "backpressure," which is one of the most blatent falacies when it comes to automotive performance. What matters most is exhaust gas velocity.

Umm... Let me throw in my 2 cents here, I took off my heatshield when because it cracked and was rattling, and then my exhaust started sounding raspy (because the exhaust manifold acted like an intercooler to the exhaust gas, and velocity dropped. When I wrapped it in two layers of exhaust wrap, I felt a noticible gain (do to higher velocity exhaust and a cooler engine), and the exhaust wasn't raspy anymore.

Here's the hook-up for the cheapest exhaust wrap in the world. I've had it on my car for a year. Def a lot for a little $$$.

so do you think this a power increase over just the standard exposed piping in our cars and do you also think the raspy noise will go away .........ahhh the hell with it ,im going to do it thist weekend ,i'll tell you all what i think when i'm done ...

Ceramic coat is more effective at heat retention and reflection.

Tell me what legnth of pipe you wrapped and what it costs when you are done. I'm curious as the price difference. Since Jet Hot is only $10/ft inside and out.

remember heat tape or wrap traps gas and oil and if flame hits it wil burn for hours....

I put the Thermal Wrap from thermal wrap on the top part of my Greddy Header right where it would be the hottest.....the only real places you would want to wrap would be the hottest points which is top of header...right after and before the catalytic coverter and towards to muffler of your exhaust

Whats the point in doint it to a place where the heat range is not as hot as it is where there is the most heat.....from what I have heard and learned thermal wrap is not to cool the exhaust fumes inside the pipe but to contain the heat so it doesnt escape to heat other parts an example would be under the hood....plus helping with velocity at the same time....so in a since the key points where the heat would build up the most is at the beginning of the header...you could probably do it where down pipe meets the actual exhaust pipe....then when it gets pushed to where the cat is and then again once in leaves the cat.....then its not a bad idea just do it right before you hit the muffler....you see a lot of race cars do it here
