58081, intake manifold black inside? Posted by eclipse_99rs, Aug-28-03 09:54 PM
I just looked into my manifold and was wondering if its normal for the inside of the manifold to be black looking?

Yes, if you stil have the EGR recirculation hooked up. Severity of the blackness (is it a word???) is dependent on mileage of engine, condition of engine, and quality of fuel used. Also, don't forget Oil breather spits oil vapors back in there as well

blackness = carbon buildup due to the egr valve opening in the TB

Yep, thats normal. I found the BEST thing to clean that out with is the 3M intake cleaner. Its a few bucks at Napa, and is in a medium sized white can with a trigger type sprayer. I used it to clean the inside and out of the intake manis and they literally look like new, no scrubbing or anything. If your still running egr forget about it, its going to get dirty again anyways. Nothing goes into my motor but air and fuel, I took off the pcv and the egr.
