58009, Nice package in the mail today
Posted by MetalJim, Aug-27-03 04:22 PM
3 months after ordering it - I got my pistons, rods, and rockers today. I honestly was starting to loose hope on this order till about 2 weeks ago. Initially I was told it would only take 3 weeks. Anyways, I'm happy that they're finally here.

I guess I didn't need new rockers, but I really wanted to get a set of thier rockers anyways and so I kind of splurged when I placed the order.

Now I can finally schedule some crank balancing / block boring work at the machine shop. The block is already bored to 3.5" so they wont need to take too much out.

Blackdog Motorsports - http://www.blackdogmotorsports.com/pistons.html

Pistons $465
Piston coatings $160
Rings $75
Rods $350
Rockers $170
Shipping $17

Total $1,237

It was the granddady shipment that I've been waiting on for this engine build. The rest of the components brings the price for this engine to just under 2 grand, but that includes EVERYthing else that I need(or wanted) to bulid this new shortblock - block, bedplate, crank, rod/main bearings, lower end gasket kit, ARP head studs, ARP main studs, Melling oil pump, water pump, timing belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley assembly. I suppose you don't really need ARP head/main studs but I wanted them. Also you may not need to buy a new water pump or oil pump, but I wanted to. I don't expect the machine work to cost too much.

I really just want to get this thing together so I can boost it. My turbo system is 100% designed, 75% purchased, and about 30% installed.

Not exactly sure what its gonna end up being at the shop, but hopefully it will be around $500. They're not gonna assemble it.

Balance rotating assembly $200
Bore $60-150
Clean block/crank $100
Flatten Deck $? (gonna check - not sure if its needed)

how much boost are you going to run? i wouldn't go over 12 without some C16 or some type of ignition controller... high compression with boost scares me. if it were me i wouldn't do it without a wideband oxygen sensor and the DIY-WB thingy installed to tell me my actual air/fuel ratio. i don't trust the stock oxygen sensor to give me accurate readings, i use it for a ballpark.

but... if you ran like 15 psi on race gas, that thing will be FAST.
