Well I spun a/some bearings, I dont know if they are main bearings or rod bearings (I dont know the difference) but I know that my crank is like garanteed to be scored the hell up, so I know imma have to get the crank machined and oversized bearings, I heard something about journals and stuff too, but I dont know.
Well while i was searching the forever going achives, I found that MetalJim got a crank kit, that included a crank and some bearings, I think. I was just wondering if this is a exact replacement and a cheaper way of fixing the problem instead of buyin a new engine. My mechanic friends just told me to buy a new engine for $700 and let them install it for like $300, but these crank kits I saw on the site (that I lost now) were only like $160 i think. So can anyone help guide me on the right path.

Buy new engine, or fix current engine?????
I am selling the car after this is fixed, so no upgrades.

couldnt help ya much in regards to a crank kit- but i just spun a bearing too. Machine shop polished the crank and said it still bbalanced at 10/10.Find out the condition before you go thru all the trouble of replacing something thats still good

I seem to remember someone actually getting a crank at autozone for around that price. I dont know if it's an oem crank or what, but its worth checking it out.

I also spun a bearing recently.

a machined crank and new main and rod bearings costed me $180.

of course, the heat hardened and brittled one of my rod caps too, so also needed a new set of eagle rods x(

The "kit" contains.
* 1 re-machined crankshaft.
* 1 set of matched main bearings.
* 1 set of matched rod bearings.

The crankshaft is used and they re-machine and mirror finish the rod and main journals to get the crankshaft "in spec" for an under sized set of bearings. If the main journals had to be ground 10 under, then you'll get 10 under main bearings. If the rod journals had to be ground 30 under, then you'll get 30 under rod bearings. The important thing is that you get the crank and a matching set of bearings.

The kit normally costs $200, but the guy cut me a deal for $160.

There is a core charge that was either $30 or $60 - can't remember the exact core charge. It is refunded when you send in your crankshaft. The condition of the journals on the crankshaft that you return to them does not matter, as long as it's not broken in half you'll get your core charge back.

Other than that you pay all the shipping. The shipping was $15 for them to send it to me....and $15 for me to send one to them.
