hey guys, I'm having kind of a weird problem. My car intermittently will all of a sudden cut out and die, doesn't sputter really, seems like maybe either fuel just cuts for a split second or maybe ecu glitches. If i'm at idle, car will die unless i shift really quick into neutral to bring it back again, happens on freeway too, but it just hiccups and keeps going. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a similar problem or suggest a troubleshoot strategy for this. I believe it started happening after mechanics crashed my car(long story) and they had to replace the ecu, is it likely i got a faulty replacement? Thanks for any input.

Sounds like your MAP sensor. Check the wiring of that and your ignition wires, coil, connections.

yeah, i've checked those, wires, coil, and plugs are relatively new, they were replaced about a year or two ago... any way to test the map sensor also maybe using an ohm meter or something? anything i can try that will help isolate where the problem can or can't be coming from? thx for the suggestion btw...

sorry to hear...
my car is doing the exact same thing as you described....huge hiccups while going on the freeway. Feels like a sputter and then a jerk..,car feels like stops or a second and then keeps going. Every so often it'll die at idle when I'm at a light.
About 40,000 miles ago..(mine's at 95,000 right now) my ECU went out on me, The symptoms of that problem was that the car would just cut off completely when going about 80 MPH. Not cool at all.
TrishaTalon (old member), MrlocalPimp and a some others had their ECUs dies like that too. All of them, including mine are 95s.
So far I replaced my coil pack, IAC, TPS, fuel filter, spark plugs, front o2 sensor and cleaned out the TB/Intake mani and a little bit of the EGR tube.
I have a feeling that my ECU is crapping out again. F*ck this car...I think I'm going to get rid of her. ;(

=) at least i don't feel alone now.... it sounds exactly like the problem i'm having, so is that the only problem you're having now that hiccup or is your ecu toast? maybe we can figure this thing out because it's been bugging me for so long, but its just one of those problems that have so many possible causes i dont' even know where i want to start...

well....from the first time that my ecu was toast, I was still under warranty so i brought it back to the dealership. They couldn't figure out the problem since the car drove PERFECT for them and the ECu wasn't throwing any codes, since it was broken. They give it back to me and my car would die on the way home. I bring it right back and let them keep it for days until it finally went out on them. Then, they figured out that the ECU was dead. Jeez...
So right now, I'm not sure if its the ECU or not. But the current symptoms feel like how it was when my ECU was going out. Goddamn...i can't keep replacing an ECu every 40,000 miles!!
Is there a way to just check the ECU? Cause all those diagnostic machines seem to check everything besides that...
