all you do is remove 4 nuts and 2 bolts and you can get it off.

WTF... $800?!?!? That's a huge ripoff! What's the name and number of this place? I'd like to make a phone call and see why they feel the need to rip people off. You can have 8 cats installed for that price!

Do you get lube with that?
You can probably get a bolt on replacement for $150. Really simple to replace yourself. The hardest part might be getting the old bolts off.

Well two threads were posted on this and this is what I replied with in the general section... just incase you forgot to check over there.
"$800 to install a catalytic converter is way way too much...
All you'll need is a new cat and gaskets and probably some liquid wrench to loosen the bolts. It's just a simple take out and put in like changing an oil filter, but with this there's a few bolts you have to take off here and there.
I would definitely try it own your own first before even thinking about paying $800..."

i just removed mine tonight and it wasnt that hard..except for the 2 and 1/2 hours spent trying to break lose the bolts on the front of the cat...and 45 minutes of that was spent heating them up with a torch to try losening them a little. Other than that it was easy.

Actually I sprayed liquid wrench all ovre it and eat it w/ a hammer a few times, and repeated this process every day for about 5 days before I attempted to even break the bolts loose. Still didn't do any good.

Here ya go... I think the last time i called they were asking like $160 for a bolt on cat. No modifacation required, just unbolt your old one and bolt this one on. I didnt really have any issues removing mine. I just squirted them with WD40 and let them soak for about 30 minutes before i removed them.

All cats remove emmisions. That's what it is... a catalyst to convert exhaust emissions.

I bet the reason why the shop said $800.00, is becuase it is illegal( in KS anyway) to mess with the cat if it is in working order...Huge fines can be assessed for messing with them especially places that are emissions controlled like PA, CA... Most places wont even touch them here in Kansas unless you know someone or got a hook-up. But the do-it-yourselfer can do it in less than an hour, if the replacement has flanges to bolt to.

It's just a part on a car, not illegal to mess with it or replace it with a DOT approved replacement. They didn't refuse to do it, but want to charge $800. He said that his old one is not is good working order.

i tried and tried and tried sooo much to get mine off but the bolts wouldn't budge, i suggest you find a cheeper priced place... i got mine done (test pipe) at a custom exhaust shop, i'm not sure if you have anything like that there, there are no emmissions in Fl.
btw i only paid the guy 45 and got new bolts to boot... i just need to thow on some gaskets
will a home made gasket (gasket matteral from an auto store) work? and should i use the gasket goo like on the valve cover??
sorry for stealing the thread... thanks
