57462, Question about CEL light Posted by solareclipse98, Aug-19-03 06:52 AM
I have a 1998 Mitsubishi eclipse RS and my friend Sasha has a 1997 Mitsubishi eclipse GS.... he can do the key dance and his CEL does this fancy flash sequance... i remember when i tried to do the same thing it wouldn't do it... however i do remember the CEL coming on when my map went boom when i had nitrous...
Could my ECU be messed up?? once i replaced my map the CEL went off and worked just fine....
this was way before i rebuilt my motor i just want to make sure i don't need to be overly worried about my ecu..

I think you may have just answered your own question. You said your CEL came on when you blew out your MAP sensor. ok...you put a new MAP sensor on, the CEL goes off.
Seems pretty clear to me that your CEL code was for your MAP sensor blowing, obviously, and when you put a new one on, the CEL went away.
Im pretty sure you dont need to reset the ECU EVERYTIME you get a CEL and then fix the problem. Thought the ECU would figure out you fixed the problem and reset the light, atleast that's what happens when i fix stuff on mine without resetting.
If that wasnt what you were asking, im sorry:)

joseph's answer(s) were right on. if the dreaded CEL comes back, go to autozone and get them to run the FREE CEL TEST on your car. it will tell you exactly what is wrong as is FREE. did i mention its FREE? goodluck.
