57411, Power Steering Belt HELP
Posted by pn0ymahal, Aug-18-03 02:39 PM
ok had my engine rebuild. used my old PS belt since my new one was not correct. ok so 100+miles later that belt starts to get eaten on the edges etc.. so we put a new PS Belt on everything was correct.. now when i look at the belt on the AC compressor/pulley its more to the edge ( towards the passengers side ) not in the middle... i asked my friend whats up and he says, something is wrong maybe the pulley is no good or not put on correct etc.. also now i notice there is a super small eaten part on the edge of the belt.. not as much as the 1st belt.. i know for sure it was put on correct the 1st time so what gives? what do you all think it is what to fix etc?
thanks

I had the same problem right after my timing belt was done. I took it back to the mechanic and showed him. He didn't know why(thanks for the help pal). So I took the pulley off and noticed that adjustment bolt was tweeked ever so slightly. Got a new one and it appears to have cured that problem for now.

i have the stock crank pulley on this motor.
dude what adjustment bolt ? are you talking about the bolt which goes in the center of the crank stock pulley? or the adjusting 'screw' for the power steering and a/c compressor ( the long one which screws towards the timing belt direction? )

Mike,
the assembly is 140 bucks from satan
it is the entire tensioner unit, pulley and all.

i think the crank pulley is just installed wrong.
go buy an unorthodox and replace it
i haven't had a slipped broken or squeaky belt since i did.

james, i got no money to buy the new crank pulley right now. but the entire assembly is all pulleys ( crank, power steering tension and ac pulley )? or just the tension pulley which has the screw going in it? you free sometime to look at it?

ok so im wrong ^^^ the assembly includes the shaft, tension pulley, cover, adjust plate, and tension pulley bracket? correct? if thats it the dealer says i get it for $74 still expensive.. would this cause my problem? oh james, the thing you gave me before is the bearing which fits inside this tension pulley right? the one in the middle?
my builder did not change the bearing in the middle for this pulley.

yup that is for the tensioner pulley. is the tensioner in line with the PS and AC pulleys. you may just need to tighten the main crank bolt pulley more, it may not be seated all the way.

Yo Mike, prolly what James said. The main bolt of the crank shaft pulley might not be in all the way. I had this same problem with my AFX UDP. I shredded belts twice already. Then with Dan G's help, I went to RRE and Mike just tightened the bolt which can be accessed from the right passenger wheel well. Haven't shredded belts since. Hopefully that's the only problem u have, so u can help me out with my gasket install. :P
