57356, timing belt question
Posted by juggalo, Aug-18-03 02:51 AM
i just got done changing the T-belt on my friends 2gnt. i replaced the timing belt, tensioner pulley, and water pump. i followed the prodcedure in the FSM and even rotated the crank 2 full rotations when i finished to make sure it was right(it was). when i took it for a drive it was dying when i would come to a stop so i pulled the codes(no CEL though). it was the p1390(tbelt skipped atleast 1 tooth)code. i was thinking it has to be the tensioner. is there anything else it could be? TIA

I did the same thing the first time i changed my t-belt. It sucks when you have to pull it back apart when you just finished putting it together.

yeah the first time i did it was the day after i had paid someone else to do it. they didn't replace the tensioner pulley and the bolt on it broke. so not knowing i had bent valves, i replace the timing belt and tensioner pulley. well after i tried to start it and did i compression test i had to pull it right back off along with the head.

i am just finishing up replacing the tensioner so hopefully it'll be good to go now.
