57346, problems with engine. help please! kinda long Posted by stoyboycs, Aug-17-03 05:08 PM
Alright I originally thought maybe a problem with plugs or wires. So changed those and found one of the ignition coils terminals was rusted so replaced that. ANd am still having problem with car so please help me. Ok I was turbo then sold it and everything was fine for a day or two then problem started. when I replaced the plugs I found oil in the spark plug tube so replaced valve cover gasket. Now heres the problem: when the car idles and I just leave it there it runs fine for about 2-5min. then it like dies and the whole car vibrates violently and then the engine revs and its fine again and then repeats that same thing again. When it just idles it idles around 1k and then slowly drops to 900rpm and then does that dieing. So my question is what is the problem. when I took of the turbo kit I left the walbro 255litre fuel pump in there so could it being running overly rich and causing it to do that if not what could be the problem. Either way I'm gonna take that pump out and put it back to stock soon so I'll find out. Also I've noticed that the downpipe and exhaust manifold on the inside is covered with this dark black substance that wasn't there before this started. Also it isn't burning oil so I don't know what the problem is. thanks in advance for any help.
thanks, Chris

my car does this too after it idles for a few minutes. I believe it is from the fuel pump like you suspected. If you still have the fpr try turning down the base idle pressure. This might not work if the pump is pushing fuel through the injectors. When my car does this i just tap the throttle a few times to burn the gas out or i just let it do it until the car cuts off, when i restart it it idles just fine.

How's your o2 sensor? After a few minutes of running, the ECU goes into its closed loop operation, running A/F mixture off of the o2 sensor. If its going bad, then that could be an issue. If you have any way to measure your fuel pressure, do that too, to be sure its at stock pressures (45-50 psi) at idle.

well I switched back to the stock fuel pump and it helped alot, it still does the same dieing thing but now it's not so violent and its alot quieter. Now I'm gonna try the 02 sensor and I hope that will fix it so I can finally start driving around again. Thanks for the help guys.

My friend had this problem. It sonds like your losing air. My friend found that some of his hoses werent connected, but it just sounds like your losing air compression somewhere due to my friends experience.
