I seen this stuff at Auto Zone today. You put it in with your engine oil just before you drain it. Let it idle for 5 min and then drain your oil. It's supposed to get the sludge out of your engine and free up the moving parts. Anyone used this stuff? I thought about it.

The best stuff I've seen is made by GUNK....it's in a black bottle.

You put it in after you run you oil out..you change the filter an dpour it in....run for 10-15 min....then change the fluid to oil and put on new filter...

that reminds me of when people used to runa tf in their motors to remove all the sludge n stuff ...



remember if u get all that sludge n stuff loose it can clog oil galleys and it can make plugged up leaks reappear...

3M makes some good stuff and you can also get a kit.

The only thing internal I would use would be the Mopar combustion chamber cleaner. I'm weary of other magic cleaners... If you have been doing your routine mantanance it should be fine.

MCCC is for the intake tract and top of the pistons. It removed carbon build up from the tops of the pistons, and the backs of the valves... allegedly.

Bill is right on target - the stuff that they sell at autozone is ATF. Look at the bottle at autozone, and then look around for some power steering fluid.... You'll find a bottle of "power steering fluid" that has the exact shape and size of that cleaner you're talking about. Know why? It's because they're BOTH ATF. What's the difference? They mark the "power steering" fluid and the "magical engine cleaner" up from the price of ATF - that's it.

If you ever take apart an automatic tranny you'll see that there's never any oil buildup on anything, unlike motor oil. ATF cleans up any varnish in your engine because it's got quite a few detergents in it, and it doesn't create any varnish itself. It's been used for years to do stuff like that. If you change your oil at recommended intervals you don't need to dump this in the crankcase, because you won't have any real amount of varnished oil anywhere in the block.

If you DO decide to use it make sure you only let your engine idle - ATF is harsh on bearing surfaces.

so but the ATF in the oil before an oil change, then idle for 5 minutes, then do the oil change???

i've got an oil leek (not sure were now :() and i'd love to save some oil, i add some every other week but it hasn't been so bad lately

but, the guy who owned the car before me didn't take care of it so i may want to do this depending on what effects it will have
