Anyone can give me advice on what's the best spark plugs and cables to use? My car's due for service anytime soon and I just wanna change to better spark plugs and cables.

Ooooh one more thing. I was talking with my friend who owns an S5 RX-7 FC3S and he was telling me something about the ATF trick. Automatic Transmission Fluid Trick. He said all you gotta do is bleed your engine oil, pour in some ATF, crank your engine, let it run for awhile, then bleed the ATF, then finally put in new engine oil. Anyone heard of this trick before? If so, what are the actual procedures to performing it? My friend said that it works wonders if done correctly.

1. Magnecore 8.5 mm wires:thumbsup Look around the for sale section. People are usually selling them in good condition, if you're trying to save a few $
2. If you have the money, denso iridiums, otherwise stock NGKs

You're gonna get lots of opinions. That's what I have and haven't had one problem. Both plugs and wires will smooth out the idle and acceleration.

no idea about the trick, but you don't "bleed" engine oil. you drain it. There's no bleed screw on the oil pan.

A trick to do what exactly???

i have the Crane Fireball 8.5mm spark plug wires (lowest resistance/foot that i could find on Howell's site) along with the OEM NGK's gapped at .030". i also have the Screamin' Demon' coil pack.

i'm also in the market for a Crane or a MSD ignition controller... anyone know of a good place to get one? basically i want a unit that can retard timing according to boost, and can also function as a studderbox.

normal denso spark plugs are NGK's right?

RX-7s are a whole different world. rarely anything that goes for a 7 goes for any other car. i know that my friend puts oil in his gas to lubricate the rotors and all types of other shit, and that his exhaust smells horrible because of it. rotary is a strange animal that is powerful when understood but fragile and dangerous when it isn't.

if you NA, you could go one range hotter on the plugs. i installed some NGK bkr5e-11's yesterday. i love them. alot smoother when accelerating and idle sounds "stronger" if that makes sense. the NGK plugs im referring to arent made for the eclipse. just tell them you need them for a 1998 galant if they ask...should be about $8 and some change. goodluck.

That atf "trick" is like an oil system cleaner. Just like normal cleaners, you pour it in, start the car, idle for about 5 minutes. Drain the oil and then add oil and change the filter.

Hey guys thanks for all the info and replies. Sorry I took so long to answer but my damn computer just won't open 2gnt's website sometimes. I don't know why. Anyway, I'm still deciding which sparks plugs and wires to go with. So all I have to do for the ATF trick is to pour some into the engine, crank and idle for 5 minutes then drain and change oil? I might not do it this service cause I've already put in some Marvel Mystery Oil into my engine and gas tank. Hope that works just as good. Haha.

Hey guys, one more question! Where can I get Denso Iridiums and 8.5 mm Magnacors cheap? So far the cheapest I've found is:

1. Magnacor KV85 - $57.69
2. Denso Iridium - $10.99

These prices are excluding shipping. Are these prices reasonable? Thanks again people.

The price for the Magnecores did not include shipping. Add $8.50. That's high shipping imo, but it might be a lower total price than the one you found. If you find a lower price let us know.

When you get your plugs and wires, post a review.

Here's my advice about plugs:

1. Make sure they're gapped the same. That way they will spark evenly, hence smoother acceleration and idle. When I took my original plugs out they were not gapped the same so the new plugs really made a difference.

2. Gap them cold (small gap) if you're on the interstate and hot (big gap) if you're in town - stop and go traffic. You want a hot plug in a cold engine and a cold plug in a hot engine. If you put a hot plug in a hot engine you're gonna run the risk of burning out the cylinder. Check Chilton's for gap range.

3. Use lots of dielectric grease on the spark plug boots. It makes it 10 times easier to get off and no scraped knuckles.

These are suggestions for normal use. If anyone has other opinions, please post.

I like the MSD wires with Denso Iridium plugs.

After adding the shipping costs, it all came up to $51.08 for 4 plugs. Hey thanks for all the advice on the plugs man. I'm seriously quite lost on the spark plugs subject so I'd better take your advice and do some "studying". Hehe. Anyway, thanks for letting me in on the magnecor website. Luckily I haven't bought those yet.

Since Densos are iridium (hard material) the gap will not open up as fast as platinum plugs. They're more expensive because they'll last longer. I think I saw them on Autozone's web site. Also check out Pep Boys.

I definantly recommend Magnecores. If you're willing to pay for Densos, do it. Otherwise just get NGKs.

I've heard mixed reviews about the boche platinum 2s or +4s, one being the gap isn't the recommended width, another about it might advance the spark. I've had platinum 2s in my car ~6000 miles, never had any problem other than my left front chirped more after I istalled them. guy that works at the autozone has the +4s in his eclipse, his car's better than mine. my dad also put the platinum 2s in his neon, car ran better. go figure.
only thing to add, I've found out the hard way that the copper grease/anti seize lube prevents your plugs from getting stuck in the block. (happened to an old truck of ours) and, if the wires have been stuck due to no dielectric grease, a few good twists cures that. rip and pull equals bloody knuckles.

I'm using magnacore 8.5 wires and ngk iridium ix. Pricy, but worth it IMO. When I first changed out the wires and plugs, I was still NA. God damn, it made a hell of a difference as far as acceleration response. I got my plugs from sparkplugs.com. Decent price for iridium plugs.

I've been running the bosche +4's in my car for close to 10K miles now with no problems.
