57098, Got my header installed today! *review* Posted by 98_silvergs, Aug-13-03 10:42 AM
As the thread title says. Here's a small review on it. It's an HP 4-1 Header.
After reading numerous threads about people getting a header on there 420A and how there exhaust sounds so much better than before. I will say i didn't notice the tone of it change one bit, it sounds exactly the same, but sounds a little more agressive when doing 40mph then punching it. When it's idling or just taking off it sounds the same to me.
Alot of people also say that you will lose low end with the 4-1 style, i also didnt notice any loss with it. It takes off the same as before, but it has alot more high end kick. Even though my car is a slow automatic, this header did improve my high end by a decent amount. I will say i'm satisfied with it, and if you're gonna mod your 420A, i say a header is worth it.
Here is a couple pics.

Very nice. I love mine also. The thing that really changed my exhaust tone was the racing cat/header combo. It is really raspy and buzzy now, i am actually going to go get a glass pack put in. But i want to know does the glasspack restrict the flow?? therefore canceling out my racing cat?? -Chris b.

Go to an exhaust shop and just have them weld in a universal resonator...it will completely cancel out the raspiness and doesnt effect flow at all...still have the amazing top end but you gain a lil low end torque back too.

The guy who did it for me said he had no problems at all. He said it was the easiest header he ever installed. Doesnt say much they, he owns an exhaust shop and does this shit everyday.

Ok I have noticed something funny. OBX and HPracing headers are the exact same. I mean the EXACT same, same shape, bends, welds, everything. The OBX warehouse is about 15mins away from me. I called them and asked them why is that. They said because "HP Racing probably gets them from the same supplier we do". But the OBX header is like $100 cheaper, go figure.

wooooo...that was how my engine looked back in the day before i went turbo. enjoy it while it lasts, i was too an Auto and i didn't notice that much of an improvement in power, but at least it gives you a better exhaust sound. if you're going the nitrous or high compression route that's good to have for more exhaust velocity, but if you were expecting anything by it, it's really a .2~.5 HP improvement. now you're like probably 99~110whp. i know 'cause i dynoed my car back then, and that was my result. sorry if i make it sound disapointing, but i want to give you my point of view by it, 'cause you didn't sound to impressed with it. and i felt the sameway when i bought it.

Did you not read my review on it bro'? I am happy with it, with me being auto and all it helped my car out a decent amount.

Glad you like it. I got the Greddy header(4-1) and i didnt feel any top end, just low end. But mine did change the exhaust tone a bit..slightly louder, but better.

Good pick dude! Your car is F*CK!N AWESOME! You car is very similar to one of my favorite eclises of all time . . . CF hood and an FMIC and you have it!

I also have the Greddy 4-1 header and I noticed more top end than bottom end. Seems real sluggish if I'm below 3K but just rips and pulls hard all the way to redline from there. I don't know about you guys, but I have a CAI, N1 Catback, and the Greddy header and it made a big sound difference. It seems like my exhaust is less raspy than it was and it is also a lot more even throughout the entire RPM band where before there was different tones from 500-3500 and 3500-7200. Not totally sure about this either, but I think it made my exhaust quieter.

Thanks for the Compliments flyinesi! Yes that eclipse did inspire me to make mine look similar, I'm just not into carbon fiber hoods. If i went the turbo root, i would definatly add an intercooler without a doubt.
Actually today i noticed the exhaust change alot. Yesterday when i got it installed, it was raining and i had my windows up. Now today leaving work, sun was out, windows were down and my car sounded ALOT better than before. I too notcied the tone quiter, but much deeper. I love it now!

Isn't it true that the 4-1 headers aren't really designed for low end, mostly top end. While the 4-2-1 is designed for the low end?

While the 4-2-1 is designed for the >low end? > I say its the complete opposite, I've had both 4-1 and 4-2-1 installed on my car so I know how both feel.
