57040, alternator bearings?
Posted by trickedeclipse, Aug-12-03 05:50 AM
hi guys, there's a weird scraping noise coming from what seems like underneath my intake manifold. it's on the passenger side of the car. it sounds like bearings gone bad. there is only a noise at about 2000 rpms, otherwise it goes away. definately not internal, and i'm positive its not a heat shield rattling or anything like that.

let me know what you think.

Best way to check is to pull the alternator, and check for play in the shaft of the alternator, and listen to it.

Smooth idle? We don't need no stinking smooth idle.

Even though its on the front of your motor, you might also want to check your water pump and consider replacing it is its got over 60,000 miles on it. When they were, they can contatc the block which will make the noise you describe.

It couls be anything, possibly bad bearings, I would also check the pulleys they can sometimes go bad and make a whiney noise.
