sup everyone
I was bored this morning to i decided to check out my
engine...on a 420A engine, is the EGR suppose to just hang
like that in front of the engine and on top of the header? and
i noticed that the hoses that connects it to the thermostat
and to the engine, you can easily pull it out...is everyone
the same, or are my hoses just old and need replacing? last
one, when do you change the EGR, and what are the symptoms of
a bad EGR? that's it, appreciate your input.

What you are looking at is not the egr pipe. It is a hard
coolant line. The EGR is located on the right side of the
motor as you are facing the engine bay from the front of the
car. There is a solenoid with a vacuum line connected to the
egr valve and the pipe runs directly from the head to the
intake manifold.

If you pull out any hose that is connected to the thermostat
housing (except for the one that runs to the coolant resovour)
it should leak out coolant. If it doesn't, then you are low
on coolant and need to add some.

You shouldn't need to replace your EGR system. In fact, many
people (including myself) remove it completely. The symptoms
of a bad EGR system is a check engine light indicating that
you either have a problem with the solenoid, or that there is
insufficient flow (2 seperate codes).

the egr just hangs there in mid air with the vacume lines
attached...
if it goes bad id block it off rather then spend oodles to
have a new one installed or fix it...

does everyone have problems with the stupid EGR
solenoid...what a piece of crap....stupid NY and there
emissions laws so i cant take mine off.
