Well the head is off my car. I need a new head gasket for sure. And since it's out I might aswell get new ARP bolts, the timing belt done and anything else related to the 60k miles service. If anyone can suggest at this time to do something else, please do so. Also can you tell me where is the best place and price to get the following. Thanx

MLS head gasket
Goodyear Gatorback timing belt
Melling Oil Pump

'lo, I just pulled my head tonight to put a head rebuild kit from Modern Performance, http://www.modernperformance.com/dcx/engine_rebuildkits.shtml, I'm using new OEM head bolts I got mailed from Bob Kise for only ~$2.25 a bolt!!! I bet Bob Kise will have the lowest price on a new OEM upper gasket kit (includes headgasket, and is neccessary if you tare you head down) for you, if you don't want the PT lifters/rockers.

That's cool. I wasn't sure if these could be found at local Autoparts or easier online. Also if anyone has parts numbers that would be great.

Once you have the head off, I think its always a good idea to have a cold beer. :9 MMmm... beer.

If you've got time and a Dremel, you could do a little port matching on your intake mani. Leave the head alone for now and just get the runners. Then you can do the TB (if it's needed) some other time when it's more convenient and you're not as worn out.

Have fun do0d! :)

Melling oil pump from autozone was expensive as hell- I ordered mine from howell and saved about $100 compared to "Da Zone". Gatorback was from autozone though:$40. I went ahead and replaced the water pump while I was at it. Another $45.
As far as what else to suggest while you've got it torn apart, how about Crower stage 2 Camshafts, new valve springs with titanium retainer clips, oversized valves, port and polish, and adjustable cam gears to start off.....since you're already gonna have it torn apart
:P

WHOA! That sounds deep...:D I wouldn't want to spend loot on the head like that, without doing the bottom end. But we'll see. Thanx for the info, I got that down. But I have a nooB question. About the head gasket, does MLS mean Multi-Layer Steel and not a brand itself? So I would just ask for it from Mitsu or Chrysler? :wary

Well, how many miles on the block? The block is metallurgically sound enough to have new internals and rings dropped in until 50K or so miles. Might save you from pulling the head again in the future.

You shouldn't have posted this....now you got me thinking. The block has 60k. The pistons and rings look solid, compression was solid before but I do understand where you are coming from. Great...more research...
