56647, Trouble starting the car Posted by REV_GSlow, Aug-05-03 05:57 AM
When the car sits over night or for a while when im working, it has a hard time starting. I usually turn the key to let the fuel pump prime, then start. Well it takes a few seconds to actually start, then chokes like it wants to cut off. In a matter of seconds it will idle up but still have a slight miss. i can hear the miss coming from the exhaust. I was thinking it was the battery, but what do you guys think? I still have the hesitation problem, andi have a post about my milled head..any help here??

May wanna check your coil pack for proper resistance. The other day while driving my car just died and wont start at all now. It has gradually gotten worse over the past year tho. You may wanna get your batter checked, or see if someone can jump you. If jumping doesnt work, i dont think it'd be your battery.

i replaced the coil about 6 months ago. The car will start, im just thinking that the battery is weak. Would a weak battery cause hesitation at all? What about the fuel pump relay? I have a CEL for the egr system, but everything is hooked up properly.

Nah a battery wouldnt do that I dont think because the battery is only used for starting really, and some other minor things. But im pretty sure the power from the alternator is what gets you your spark. Have you changed your fuel filter/spark plugs/spark plug wires lately?

yep..plugs, wires, and fuel filter..fuel pump, gas tank, injectors, fpr, iac, tps, intake air temp sensor..you name it and its new. Im stumped. Could it be anything with the egr system..or maybe the ecu?

I thought about it a little more. I really think its my ecu. When i reset it, the car misses, hesitates and stutters VERY badly for two or three days until it learns the car..but it still hesitates slightly after that. Could i check the caps on the ecu, or should i just replace the whole damn thing. The ecu is almost the last part of the motor that will be replaced. Ideas??

Well I just went outside and fucked around with some sensors. unplugged one on the fire wall...furthest to the right. It was kinda unplugged so i plugged it in good, still no start. Take off + terminal on batter...go to start...vroom. WEIRD. i drive a fuckin DSM and its becoming more and more evident:+
edit: ok so i didnt fix it. it just died while i was driving to my work:(
