56474, What is the loudest cat-back you people have ever heard?? Posted by clipse2ner, Aug-02-03 01:01 AM
Hi,
I almost certain about getting the Magnaflow cat-back for my 1995 Eclipse GS when I get the car,but I wanted to know if there is a louder, better performing cat-back then the Mag just to widen my choices a little bit incase I can't get the Mag for some reason.I mean what other companies that have good reps make cat-backs for my car that have deep agressive sound, fit good, last longer, and perform better then the Mag other then Apexi,Thermal,Greddy,Tanabe,OBX,and Borla? Also would 2.5" piping be too much on a non-turbo?I do plan on turbo charging it eventually, but that won't be for a while.Thats all the questions I have for now,I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I really need to know!Any info will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks, DJ
P.S. If this helps! The most important thing I want out of an exhaust is sound if it is too quiet don't even bother telling me it exist and the next would be performance,it needs to perform well also! One more thing I don't want DTM style tips!

little known product by the name of Airmass Thundermuff cat-back is what I have. Its an offshoot of Holley. Loudest freaking cat-back you will ever hear. I had Pacesetter headers, GR Motorsports Racing Cat, and the Thundermuff Cat-back. Total was like $500 for everything...SOO FREAKING LOUD...went to a muffler shop and had a $25 resonator welded in, now it is much quieter and sounds like a $500 cat-back by itself...really nice and cheap. 2.5" all the way back all stainless steel.

test pipe anything and it will be loud as shit
Why do you want loud...go for performance, put a test pipe on an Apex or Greddy and have some volume and performance.

The A.T.R Pitbull. I don't know if they make it for the GST but I have heard it on a GSX and that thing is as loud as they come. It's all stainless and mandrel bent. Dual tip I think it had...:D

Thanks for the replies, but I think I might look more into the Airmass Thundermuff!!Because its not a bad price compared to other cat-backs out there and I like the way it looks!!I have some questions for you Tundermuff owners first is 2.5" piping too much for a N/T?Has anybody with this exhaust ever turbocharged their car,if so how did it perform with the Turbo?Did you guys loose any horepower with this exhaust? How much would you say you gained with this exhaust in terms of HP and Torq?Does it fit good?Does it sound like a pissed off bumble bee?Last quesstion are they reliable?I mean do they rust easy or leak a lot?I'm sorry for all the questions I just have to know because this could be the exhaust I end up with!Any info will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, DJ

2.5" isnt too much for NA, infact it is perfect. Im sure it will perform fine with a turbo and it is all mandrel bent. All my torque and hp increased from 3000 to redline...I can chirp second gear all day long and now chirp third gear occasionally and the car leaps into gear 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and feels like it pulls so hard. Upper acceleration is great and it is fun getting on the highway. It fitted perfectly but it does rattle on my rear crossmember but most cat-backs do and its not a big deal. Mine hasnt rusted or leaked but i spray painted mine black. It does sound like shit unless you have a resonator welded in and that cost me $25 parts and labor and took 20 min. Well worth it for the money i saved. GO FOR IT!:thumbsup

I also have the airmass thundermuff. I agree it is great on performance loud as hell. I too have that dam rattle on the rear cross bar. What's up whith the resonator? Can I just go the the local auto shop to pick one up? Also do you loose any horse with putting one in?

The loudest cat-back I've ever heard was this damn ricer's civic's 3" welded press bent cat back w/ an apex-i dunk (5" tip) weld on muffler. It was so fucking loud it would make your ears almost bleed, it sounded so horrible.
Real cat-backs arn't loud, because distortion cause's the high's which make's it very loud.

I love my e-bay special. It's called a Tsudo and it's a 60mm (just under 2.5") cat back. It fit perfect. Madrle bent SS and powder coated piping. There is a rattle on start up but that's about it. And it does sound a bit like a pissed of bumble bee...but I like it. Louder then f too...my girlfriend can here me coming from like 4 blocks away unless I idle in at like 4th gear..LOL. It made my car pull real nice in the upper RPM range. Looks good...the tip is not really big...but shiny so it's noticable. All in all I'm very happy for 250 bucks. If you get it from ebay though you'll have to pay for shipping...I got really lucky and the business was like 2 hours from me so I just picked it up. :thumbsup

i have to agree with the tanabe. my 3" catback tanabe super racing medallion is the loudest thing i have ever heard. no comparison.... wonderful, sonorous, deep tone that carries miles. my friends say they hear me miles down the road after i leave their house. its great. comes w/ a silencer too. only if you want to use it of course.

mine, lol. I have pacesetter piping, gutted cat, and an OBX muffler. My car can be heard from blocks away. Whenever I go into parking garages I make every alarm in the place go off :thumbsup But hey true enthusiasts give me thumbs up all the time for the way it sounds. Only problem I have with it is the muffler isnt far enough out from under the rear bumper and when it shoots flames from time to time it fucks up the bumper. The part of the bumper above the cutout is now black.
