i know we have to actually submerge the filter to get hydrolocked but ... what of rain ? i know the k&n filter works using oil ... now does the oil prevent the water from getting in or am i overly paranoid ?

wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overly paranoid. I told you I drove for 2yrs with a cai w/ no problems. Rain sleet or snow didnt matter. And I was lowered 2'.

I don't know how well constructed those bypass valves are, and they do create an interfirence in the flow of air coming in. But if it works when you submerge the filter then you are good.

Regular rain won't do wnything but get stuff wet, no worries on hydrolock.

I got 2 bent rods from my CAI (and yes I was careful ... just really bad luck). The bypass valve is really cheaply made ... the plastic can't take the heat in the engine bay and will eventually crack (especially if you drive hard). I still think a CAI is a great mod (much better than a POS short ram ... air is too hot under the hood).
