Could I just have a machine shop mill my head to raise my compression?

And if I had my heads milled, what compression could I do while still using pump gas? Would I have to change anything else in my car besides what gas I feed it?

My current setup:
CAI
4-1 headers
New Msd ignition coil pack
New plugs/wires

What kind of HP gains are expected, from my worn engine with 175psi accross the cylinders? How much would it cost to do?

I suggest a set of cam gears to adjust cam timing for both overlap and to compensate for the new timing belt geometry. And yes run premium gas.

to the best of my knowledge if u increased the size of the head inside i would think it would lower the compression instead of raising it just my 2 pesos

by milling the block and or head u can increase compression

for every 40 thou you change the timing 1 degree if i remember right...

remove the center layer on the mls head gakset and u can gain about a point in compression with about a 25-30thou mill

ok i have a question then, i had my head bought to the machine shop for them to do there work while i had the pistons re-ringed. now would this job on the head affect the timing? i ask this because my car cannot idle properly after i had everything done. it would idle at about 400 and would jump around constantly. the car would shake too. can anyone help me out? thanks in advance.

welllll ive been waiting to see this post. My head was milled 50 thousandths, and ive been having hesitation issues big time. When i start the car is takes a second to hit the right idle too. My timing is set like it should be from the factory, not one tooth off. Im also running 87 octane. Could this be my problem..and if so how do i set the timing correctly??

sounds like what i have too. it would start with a low idle, sounding like it is about to die out and then climb to normal and from there on, it would just bounce around. the engine shakes too. help please.

at 50 thou u do not have perfect timing 0/0

and it sounds like a vacume leak to change the idle like that...

yea, sounds like you need adjustable cam gears and maybe you should start running 91 octane in ur car...i dont have a milled head and I still run 91. Computer can change the timing a little just by putting in better gasoline.

Any other work done to the engine at the machine shop. What does your air-fule ratio look like? Yes cam gears would be a big help, you can't mill that much off the head and expect a perfect alignment.

Ok, im running 91 octane..but what do i need to do to my timing? I dont have adjustable gears either. Am i going to have to rip the belt off and redo the timing to get it set? If so how much..with details. Thanks
