I have the AFX UDP on the car and last week I noticed I needed to tighten my belts as the A/C and PS would squeal a bit in the afternoon when I went to leave work.

Yesterday afternoon I put some more tension on them with the tensioner up front. Now I hear the belt rotating. It's not a squeal, but it's almost like I can hear every revolution of a pulley somewhere. Did I go too tight? Am I still too loose? I have no squeal, but I know if those Bando belts aren't on just right they can go away really quick.

Any input would be appreciated. TIA! :)

I've been trying to figure this out myself. Mine have always made noise, even before the pulley was on. I'm kinda wondering if coolant is dripping out of the overflow tube down on the belt. I also don't think it's possible for me to put the right tension on it. :(

where can we get the information to find out the tension for it?

same here... but I've noticed. different brands of belts gave me different sounds.. so I guess its just in the material?? i dunno.

If you have to overtighten the belt to get rid of squeal - one of the bearings may be bad. The tensioner pulley bearing is the easiest to check - remove the tensioner assembley and see if the inner race gives any play. There shouldn't be any.

I checked out my tensioner when we put the engine back together and it seemed really tight (as in not sloppy, but free spinning).

Last week I would get some squeal in the afternoon when I would start the car up (but it's been kinda humid here lately) and when they would squeal, I could feel the PS go out intermittently. That is, it felt like the wheel wouldn't turn (you get used to that power in the parking lot!). Now they don't squeal at all and it sounds like I have a wheel rotating in relation to RPM.

I think I will back off the tension a hair this evening and see if I can't find a middle ground on this. It doesn't matter how tight I get the belt, I can still tweak it perpendicular to the pulleys. :P

not sure if u tried this.....but maybe try a new belt....if your using the one that came with the UDP, then a better belt may solve your problem....just a thought.... it solved my boys problem with his AEM pulleys (on a civic though).

I changed the bearing in the tensioner pulley. What other barings can I change? I also notice different sounds with different brands of belts. WTF is happening hear.

When checking the bearings its best to take it off all the way and inspect it really closely. You're looking for play in the inner race. Lets say this is the inner race looking at the bearing from a side view || ...where the bolt goes in this way ==||== make sure that it has absolutely no movement this way \\ or this way //. There should be none. I had squeaky belts and my tensioner pully had the SLIGHTest movement but it was was impossible to tell with the tensioner assembly installed. I got a new bearing - and I had no more squeak.

Another cause for squeaky belts is if you didn't install the AFX UDP all the way flush. Did you install it with a torque wrench? The best way to do it is with a air impact wrench. Just keep hammering away at it till the bolt stops turning - that way it'll be all the way on and lined up with the other pulleys.

If the UDP is on all the way - then check the other pulley bearings. Maybe the bearing in the A/C compressor is shot. Also check the P/S pump.
