56132, useful tidbit of info for rebuilders... Posted by DR1665, Jul-28-03 05:03 AM
The double-ended (for lack of a better word) bolt that holds the oil filter plate to the bottom of the block requires an 11/16 deep socket in order to get it tightened properly. ;)
You apparently can't just use an adjustable wrench and get it "tight enough." :wary I found this out yesterday making my first oil change on the new engine. The filter seemed like it was on too tight and I needed a filter wrench to break it loose. When I finally got it off, there was that bolt that the filter screws onto, firmly tightened into the filter and not the motor. This was cause for yet one more trip to home depot to buy a tool. :rolleyes
Needless to say, after spending 20 minutes in 116* weather and having hot oil (I drove it over there) run down my arm only to have trouble made me very upset.
Just wanted to share! :P

At least it gave me a reason to buy a shiny new 1/2" drive ratchet and one socket for it! :P

Hey! That's KAHno0b to you sir. :P
No we didn't have any 1/2" drives when we did the rebuild. I know now from just tightening that one bolt that they are the way to go. Those things a farking solid. Nice. :thumbsup
