5590, new engine

how much can i expect to pay? i called this place called m&s recycling today and they said $1500 for an engine with 31,000 miles on it. i have 151,700 miles on mine. it runs fine, but i'm sure it's somewhat tired. i want to get a newer one because i want to go turbo now. i think $1500 i too much though, because they also said $350 for a 97-99 front bumper and $300 for a 97-99 rear bumper. let me know how much is a smart amount to pay for a newer engine. junkyards, wherever. also, would it be cheaper to just rebuild my current engine (rods, pistons, etc.)? thanks guys!!!

That is a good deal. I got mine for the same price but with 40,000 more miles on it. Either go with this new one or rebuild yours if you wanna go turbo. You might has well upgrade the internals.

$1,100 from Howell for a bottom half rebuild kit. That leaves you $400 to come up to $1500 for a used engine to use for any machining or cleaning or rental tools etc. And they are internals good up to 400-450hp range, not stock internals. If you are mechanically inclined and have a good tool selection and would feel comfortable rebuilding yourself... go for it... if not I would get some quotes on the rebuild. I would rebuild... especially in prep for a turbo if you want.

As long as the block is solid yes. You'll be replacing oil pump, bearings, rings, rods, pistons... gaskets, etc. If you get it bored .020 over, you increase displacement a touch... which is always good. With that many miles I would find a place that can acid dick the black to clean it up and clear out all the coolant and oil passages of blockages and dirt. Hone the cylinder walls give them that nice crosshatching back and bottom half will be like new. Depends on what you want, or can afford to spend but you may want to look into doing a little work to the head. But it's a matter of money. Howell also has head rebuild kits. if you can do a lot of this work yourself. You can get a good strong motor for a good price.
