How long do we have on our engines(miles) until we should start thinking about overhauling them? I'm at 68,000. I know I won't need it any time soon but I was just wondering. Also about how much does this cost? And what all does it consist of?

Depends.

If you leave it bone stock, take good care of it, and drive easy.. could be 200,000 miles before it'll need it.

Of course, i don't know anyone like that. Most people i've ever known will likely blow it up before they'd ever come close to having to overhaul it due to wear. A full rebuild on the longblock would probably cost around 3k, not counting labor to remove the motor from the car, and replace it when you're done.

I don't know, 120k miles is what I hear is a point where some guys can run into trouble. I've heard of a few older GSX's etc having a luminous 120k point, I'm not expert tho.

What exactly is done during an overhaul? Basically re-placing the engine block with a newly/redesigned one?
