im searching around for OEM valve cover gasket for my 1995 and i keep coming across this A588 as the non-turbo eclipse engine. is this the same???????

no. you have the 420a. get the gasket for the 420a. Go to your local Napa and get it.

check that link out. for the Eclipse 2.0 DOHC it has the wack a$$ engine code "A588" and i cant help but wonder if that is the same as 420A

Also it has 4A20 as the same engine as A588.. And 4A20 is a lot like 420A.. Weird:wary

That's the new engine code for the SRT4 (neon) motor. So no that gasket prolly won't work. I don't know though I have not looked at it either.

why the he11 would they have it under 95 nt eclipse? it doesnt make sense if that is the srt4 engine, that just came out this year!

If that is the engine code for the new neon, i wouldn't be supprised if the head is almost identical to ours.. Very well may be the same head gasket..

The A588 IS the 420A.
420A is thw chrysler code, A588 is the Mitsu code.

Look at your engine bay once, it says A588 for the engine type on the tag on the hood. And my 99 RS used to have a big ass sticker on teh valve cover that said A588 also...

well thats jacked up, cuz my car has 420A on the sticker. and yes, its an eclipse, not a talon. they don't have a different engine code for mitsubishi. its the same engine, made by chrysler.

my talon says 420a on the sticker.

make sure you look at the gasket when you buy it at Napa. (if you do). When I bought it there, it came wrapped in clear plastic so I could see it. Make sure it looks like it will fit this:



Note how it goes around the bolts. The 4G63 version has holes in the gasket that the bolts go through. That is the easiest way to tell the difference right away.

THey are both the same engine, A588 and 420A, and both of the codes seem to be used in different places... it may well be that some years mitsu used a588 on the valve cover, and some years 420a.
One thing I do know though, when I order parts from www.genuinemitsubishiparts.com they use the code a588... doesnt matter much, both are the same engine.

And yes, the Neon head gasket is the same as the 420a/a588 in a dsm. The heads are different, but the gasket is the same.

yes a588 is the mitsu code for the 420a. iv ordered parts from some mitsu direct web site and its for 2gnt's as well as all other 420a's..diff code..same engine
