Im doing the timing belt now. When I was taking off the crankshaft damper pulley, I stripped the damper hole. Now the bolt won't screw in? I think its the first 2-3 threads when the pulley puller was pulling on it while the bolt was almost all the way out.

I'm thinking that maybe if I get a drill in there and take out the first 2-3 threads and start the threading after that. What do you guys think? Will this work?

I don't know for sure but did you try torqing in the bolt using a cheater pipe to get you past those first few threads?? If that bolts not strong enough you can get a stainless steel replacement at any hardware store. Just a idea.:(

It would be much safer to buy the right sized metric tap for that hole and clean up the threads that way then to take a drill to it.

Newbie reply...I've heard of taps but never knew exactly what they are or exactly what they do. Anyone care to ellaborate?

what a tap will do is re-thread a damaged thread.... if it is too damaged you will have to get a heli coil kit....a heli coil kit is a bigger drill bit that you use and add a heli coil in the bigger hole then break off the tab and you have a new set of threads...... but this is a last resort.....use the correct tap first.... hope this helps you out

tapping is the best way to go. advance auto, autozone, most hardware stores should have it. be sure to get the correct size like Dino has mentioned. good luck.

just go to sears....... they have both metric and standard...why pay more at a parts store

Does anybodo know what size i should get? I think its a 12. Can anybody verify?

Also, how exactly do you use a tap? With a socket wrench?
