Ok up at school today "Nascar Technical Institute" my teacher was talking about drag racing and some stuff they did for free power. Ok he said that racers will hook up lines from there valve cover to there exhaust so that it pulls more of the crankcase pressure out. He also said they might use a pump to get the same effect. He said with less pressure in there that the rings would seal better and if there is alot of pressure in there that it would cause excess blow by which would give u less power. he said they say gains from a tenth to 2 tenths in the 1/4 by doing this. So does this mean that people that have both lines running off the valve cover to a catch can r acutaly hurting there performance.
also we did some testing and we found that the "total seal rings picked up a little over 20 hp on a motor by just putting in those rings. Does total seal make these rings for our car?

hmmm..thats pretty interesting! i would HIGHLY doubt that a mod such as that would make any difference on our cars, though.
as far as the total seals...ive heard a LOT of mixed revews about them. do a search and you will see what i mean. i also dont see how any hp would be gained unless your rings were totaly shot beforehand.

the rings helped so much because they have less then 1% leakdown. The compression rings were made of 2 rings in each groove.

ok and he said they used the pumps or lines running to ur exhaust on street cars and full drag cars

This is what your PCV system does. It allows intake manifold vacuum to work upon your crankcase, taking oil and fuel vapors out of the crankcase which helps overall emissions, as well as creates a low pressure environment in the crankcase itself to offset the natural blowby and pressure leakdown inherit in a rod/piston engine which, as you stated, allows the rings to seal more completely (due to the pressure differential - expanding exhaust gas helps force the rings against the cylinder walls) as well as freeing up HP due to the lower pressure in the crankcase, leaving less air density/mass to be moved by the piston's downstroke in relation to the ambient density/mass and the force of combustion. Or something.
PCV is a Good Thing.

but do you really want this blow-by going into your intake? i had it going into my short ram but a friend of mine gave me a breather for free so i put it on. i doubt it made any difference but my car has 163k miles on it so i doubt anything less than a rebuild will make a difference. anyway, if your getting all this blow-by and stuff into the intake, doesn't that mean less good oxygen?
