What's up everyone, I am totally new to the Eclipse. I just got a 99 Eclipse GS Manual Tranny and would like to do some simple upgrades. First of all, I would like to get a CAI and want to know which one to get. I've seen some generic ones on ebay for cheap and was wondering if it really matters on the brand. Aren't they all the same? I would like to also upgrade the suspension, let me know what things I need to get to get great handling that could handle turns at pretty high speeds. Alright...not all CAI are the same. Those cheapy ones on Ebay arent true CAI...they dont reach all the way down to the ground. The one I have does. Most people on here either go AEM or Iceman. That is a good first mod. Suspension wise...that is all personal preference but a lot of people like Eibach Prokits as it is not a radical drop and maintains a stiff ride and Koni or Tokico shocks are good compliments to those. For better cornering and turning, i would say buy front and rear strut tower bars and or anti-sway bars. That should help a little.

I bought my 1st CAI from ebay and it was like 60 bux. True Cold Air intake. It reached all the way to the bottom right next to the brake intake hole on the bumper. So they are on ebay. Just make sure you dont buy the short ram version.
Also people have been really happy with the Goldline springs- 2"
drop.

i have an AEM cai and i love it you get a great sound and a noticable boost in power as for your suspension i have eibach's sportline kit on and yeah it said it would only be a 1.5 inch drop but it endeed up being like 2.5-3 inch drop im like one more bump away from a new flex pipe just my 2 cents hope i can help

As far as the suspension goes I have Progress springs (1.5 drop) with Tokico blues and a homeade front and rear camber kit. Also, front and rear strut bars. It helped out a lot but then I upgraded to 17s with Nitto ZRs. All of that is good and well but if you don't have good meats on your wheels then it won't do too much. I think, stock, we have an 'h' rating, translation. . . straight line. under 90mph. dry payment.

Little advice...DONT buy a CAI or Headers. why you ask? these are things that are replaced WHEN you buy a turbo for your car. think of this site as marijuana(gatewat drug), that leads you to the real expensive stuff like crack(Turbos/Rebuilds/Breaking stuff). there is no resistance, it has already begun by you registering here. :-) enjoy the car, your big smile cause of it, and your much thinner wallet. :thumbsup

haha, thanks for everyone's great advice and input. I highly doubt I'll get a Turbo but I won't totally count it out. All I want is a good intake and exhaust setup with good handling. That's about all I'm looking for. I'm not looking for that much power. Oh yeah, of course looks also.

Yeah right!...That's what I said 9 months ago when I first drove mine home. Now the better part of a year and almost 2G's later I'm 95% done piecing together my custom turbo project. I'll garuntee you will sing a different tune when a ricer honduh boy with a 75 shoot a nitro spanks you. You'll be boost'n..or on the bottle before you know it!

Hahahaha Micyek!! You speak the truth! It is more like a sickness. I started with this forum not knowing a damn thing. First thing I can say is get a Chiltons/Haynes service manual on it if you plan on doing any more performance than just the intake! You WILL use it! This is the one I am currently using and thus far impressed, and it comes with everything you need. I would also highly recommend getting an aftermarket exhaust and replacing your cat with a high-flow model(another Ebay deal around $45.00-$55.00) With that said welcome to 2GNT Phanatik!

Thanks a lot GS NOOB. So the ProCarParts CAI is good enough? I really don't need a AEM or another brand name one? How's the sound on that one and could you even feel any difference when you drive?

I just put one of the pro car parts cai's on this past weekend. Doesn't fit perfectly, you will probably need to hacksaw off some material near the fenderwell (cuts like butter...real easy). Also, be sure to clamp everything really well, espically where the two halves of the pipe come together...recommend using 3 hose clamps there. But, when all is said and done, I cant justify spending 240 bucks for an AEM when you can accomplish the same thing for 50 bucks and an hour of your time. The intake sounds great and scored good points on the butt dyno. Just my 2 cents.

Yea the intake is great! With the window down you can hear it sucking in that air! You will need to cut a little bit though, nothing a razor can't do. And do tighten the hell out of those clamps, since it is longer than the short ram intakes it does have a little play and could easily come loose if not tightened enough. But I think you will enjoy it.

you can get the ebay intakes. i would go with something like aem if carb is what you need. aem makes great intakes. for suspension i would go with tokicos kit or get eibach pro kit springs 1.3" drop about and some tokico non adjust.. that setup will make you happy. also get a used 95-99 gst eclipse muffler and bolt that onto your stock exhaust piping and you will be good to go. headers are not worth the money, but if you want one get the hotshot if you can its alot cheaper then greddy and overall its mostly about the same.
oh yah, the biggest hp gain you will get ( feel ) is from a intake.. its the best mod for n/a when comparing money etc.

well, seeing as that am a girrrrl, you may not want my advice but I am gonna give it to you anyway..hee hee...Okay, of course the best CAI I have found is AEM...they have a new one out now called V2...it is about 250.00 however...and seeing as that I am not rich...I checked around and found one that I am very happy with...It is made by Dynamic Auto Designs and runs about 75.00 and it isnt all fancy and comes with stickers and crap but as long as the shit works I dont care!!! here is a site you can look at it...

unfortunately, this site doesnt have an eclipse one but you can buy them on ebay brand new I believe...i wouldnt go with anything any cheaper though and expect it to perform miracles...as far as suspension...I did spend a little more on mine because hey, it is the suspension!!! I have Tokico struts on all fours and I got HP Racing coilovers...IF YOU DECIDE TO LOWER YOUR CAR THOUGH, I WOULD RECOMMEND LOWERING SPRINGS LIKE EIBACH OR SOMETHING...the ride on coilovers is not that great...one more thing...go with both front and back strut bars and a rear lower tie bar...if you want the handling to be real tight..i got my rear and lower rear bar from makotoautotrends.com (they also sell on ebay)...and the front is an APR strut bar which is a little pricey but very, very good and damn awesome...dont get those cheap 12.00 bars though, they dont work...here is a site for the APR bar (look around though, u can find them cheaper)...
