54894, AF/X UDP installed FINALLY... ?'s
Posted by Phaxmohdem, Jul-09-03 08:27 AM
I finally got my AFX UDP installed, I can't tell much of a difference, however I brought it to the shop in the morning when it was still cool outside, and when I got it back the temp was 20 degrees higher up in the 90's and my car still had the same pep it did with the cooler air, so I'm very optomisic about it, can't wait to cruise around tonight and try it out some more.

Couple questions though, when driving my car around it sounds like it wants to fly, but feels like there is a bottleneck somewhere that wont release its true potential, I have a Short Ram intake and now the pulley, but stock exhaust... could the exhaust be causing that to happen?

Also, I was hoping that the UDP install with new belts would stop this infernal sqeualing in my engine at around 2500-3200 RPMs but it did not, what else could be squealing? The power steering pump and AC unit? ITs pissing me off and I just want to know if there is some secrete noise maker in our engines.

Thats all for now, TIA

yeah...stock exhaust sucks balls.

at least change the muffler if you're not getting an expensive cat back. a GST/TSI (front wheel drive) muffler will bolt right up and flows better- plus its cheep.

its all a system ... the bottleneck u feel is all relevant .. short ram intake ... into a stock intake manifold .... boom bam ... into the stock exaust manifold into stock cat into stock piping ... opeing up all of these slightly should do a world of difference .... if u want more power lose the short ram .. i have one and hate it now ... i bought mine before the by pass valve came out for the cold air ,.. but im definatly going for it now ..

Bypass? Does that stop water from being ingested into the engine? It rains alot here and thats why I opted for the short ram.

that is what it is supposed to do, yes. bypass valve=no water=running engine=happy owner

I don't really see a big gain by going from Short Ram to a CAI. Either way our throttle bodies and intake manis are big enough to take the air that is let in. If anything, you exhaust is going to restrict your powerband. Stock exhaust mani, restrictive, stock cat, fine whatever, stock muffler, no no, restrictive. Open up the outflow and you will feel a difference.

bypass can also=degrade over time, which= sucked into engine through throttle body, which= big PITA for you. id stay from the bypass valve personally. heard too many horror stories with it.

Hey man, about your noise you hear. Are you a 5spd? Does it go away when you push the clutch in, if so? It could be your throwout bearing. Mine has been doing the same thing for months. Now I just got my Luk Stage I Clutch with Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel, just need time to put it on.

Naw, I'm an auto... The noise I've tracked down to the passenger side around the accessory belt area, I'm suspicious of the A/C compressor pulley but I dont know what do do about it other than start replacing crap hit or miss, the squeaking doesn't happen when the car is in neutral, just when I'm driving and there is a strain on the engine to move the car somewhere.
